Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I had a master bedroom roof leak that caused extensive plaster damage and decided to have the entire roof replaced. In fall 2005, I paid Mr. Edward Humphrey $13,000 to replace my roof, paying particular attention to the area around the chimney in my masterbedroom as that was where the leak originated. I asked for and paid extra for special copper flashing for under the area around the chimney and for the chimney and other visible flashing. I also asked that all the construction debris be removed and the attic cleaned upon completion of the job.

When Mr. Humphrey claimed the job had been completed, I told him that I had watched very carefully and noticed that the area around the chimney and master bedroom window had not been flashed properly. I told his crew the same thing but none of them spoke english. I asked Mr. Humphrey to come back and inspect and complete this. He at first refused to come back and demanded payment. I refused and he reluctantly showed up on the property. It was dark, he performed an perfuntory inspection, told me I was crazy and that it had all been flashed properly. I told him that all the flashing material, copper that I had paid extra for, was still stored in my garage and had not been used. He went to look at it. Claimed it had been used and that what I had was EXTRA and he took it away.

I told him that the workmen had stood in my gutters when working and had damaged them. They needed to be repitched, and reshaped. He said he would send someone back to do that in the morning and at that time would clear out the attic. They never came. I called and called and he never responded but immediately cashed my check.

After I had the roof repaired, I called in a plasterer to fix the master bedroom wall around the chimney. I then called in a painter. At the first heavy rain, within about a month or two of the completed NEW ROOF, I had extensive water damage in the same area that I had asked him to pay particular attention to and that I had just paid to have repaired.

I had a faulty new roof, the same leak, an attic full of construction debris and gutters that now must be completely replaced, damaged beyond repair. I am out the cost of the roof repair which I must now pay for, the cost of new gutters, the cost for the plasterer and painter. My attic is still a mess.

I called again and again, the phones were finally disconnected and this guy disappeared into thin air. Can anyone help me recoup my losses against this guy??? Please advise.

Edward Humphrey Offers Resolve

#2REBUTTAL Owner of company

Wed, July 18, 2007

This is in response to all posted comments on this website. I would be more than happy to discuss with any valid client that had contract with my company over two years ago a resolution. I have not had 1 opportunity to talk or discuss the events that had occurred May-July 2005. I would be more than happy to discuss the actual issues and the pending contracts that were in place at that time. I have started resolving substantial valid refund issues with clients, payments restructured over a set monthly time frame. I feel that this website has been utilized for homeowners to vent their frustration, which I completely understand. After two years of nothing being resolved I am ready to reach out and give the homeowners an opportunity for me to make the situation whole again. Anyone who had a valid contract that would like to contact me can through our web address [email protected] I would like to put this behind me as much as the homeowner does. Please don't hesitate to contact me. Edward Humphrey

Wrong Date on the Timing of Job

Mr Humphrey did our work in the spring of 2005, not fall. The first heavy damage from the faulty job and destroyed gutters occurred in the fall of '05.
