When placing an order for an item online Spiegel unbeknownst to me my info was sold to Priviledge Pass (ENCORE marketing) and they transparently signed me up for their "deal" called Privledge Pass. They said I "opted in" THREE times for this and agreed to pay the monthly charges for it.

When I contacted Spiegel to ask about what this was they said I had to contact Encore and they told me I signed up, they sent me an email of confirmation and they also sent me a package to my physical address with all the info about Privledge Pass. I have nothing showing I did this at all. No email, nothing came to this address no ID or Password for their website...Nothing.

I requested Speigel remove the charges they said they could not do it that I had to call the Encore. Called them and they said they "would remove the charges and credit back the credit card but it would take up to three months to get this done." Watch this space for updates as I assure you I will have to fight them on this all the way to the end.

Spiegel's Privacy Policy online says under the paragraph entitled:

How do we use your information?

Spiegel may participate with certain reputable companies who offer you the ability to establish a membership that would enable you to participate in travel and entertainment programs. If you elect to activate a trial membership in the Spiegel Privilege Pass program we will provide your name, address and credit card information to Encore Marketing International, the Spiegel Privilege Pass service provider. Spiegel is not responsible for the privacy practices of the companies sponsoring these membership programs and we suggest you review the privacy policy of each company with whom you may be considering a membership.

What Spiegel did is sell my personal and credit card info to Encore Marketing. This should be illegal!

I will be filing with the attorney general of IL as well.

When you placed your order online, you would have physically clicked the box to accept the pass from encore. Spiegel/Newport news does not *sell* your credit card information. They will have proof you signed up for it, whether you meant to or not. Reading is key, a great tool.
