I was contacted by the Loss Specialist from Enterprise recently and he stated that he was withdrawing the claim against me and my insurance carrier. He explained that there was "insufficient evidence to establish the fact that I caused the damage" to their vehicle. Evidence or not, I still maintain that I did not cause the damage that they were holding me responsible for. I believe that it is still important for renters to know what the contract says. If a vehicle is dropped off anywhere else other than the place where it was originally rented, the renter is still responsible for the vehicle until it is returned and checked in by an employee, regardless who drives the vehicle. In this case, Enterprise did the right thing. Being able to drop off the rented vehicle at the dealership where my vehicle had been repaired was beneficial to me but I would not have dropped it off knowing that I would still be responsible for it until it was checked in by an Enterprise employee.
