I was involved in a car accident which resulted in a mild head injury. After waiting around in the hot sun, a guy from Enterprise finally showed up an hour late and took me back to their La Brea offices. I was visibly shaken and feeling ill from the accident when the representative quickly shuffled through the rental agreement and obtained no less than 5 signatures on it before handing me the keys. Said reprensative asked if I wanted "basic coverage" or "full coverage" on the vehicle, failing to inform me that there is a third option: no coverage. I was further misled when he suggested that basic coverage is only $3.00 a day, when he pointed to "PAI $3.00/day." Fast forward a month later, Enterprise demanded nearly $800 in insurance costs which left me in a state of shock. I denied ever agreeing to anything like, when the woman behind the counter put a copy of the rental agreement in my face, and called me liar. She showed me where I had initialed the document, consenting to full insurance coverage. I became infuriated. The salesperson who gave me the car deceitfully suggested that I was refusing those insurance options by initialing those columns on the rental agreement. I verbally told him I do not want insurance several times before I signed that document. The total insurance bill in the end was literally higher than the bill for the car itself. Why would someone in their right mind give meaningful consent to be charged over $30 a day for insurance coverage, when their personal insurance policy would cover damages on their rental? I did not want insurance. I did not want any supplemental coverage. They tricked me into signing a document that only a lawyer would comprehend. It was also incredibly distasteful for them to take advantage of me while I was feeling so vulnerable. When I confronted the agent who went over the agreement with me, he apologized and even admitted that he would never have "recommended" insurance to me under the circumstances. Of course, they wouldn't resolve the problem. They handed me a business card and basically threw me out. This is by far the most deceitful car rental company I've ever worked with. Their behavior was utterly disgraceful. Be wary of any body shop that sends you here. They get kick-backs for recommending enterprise. As for me, I'm going to sue this company and get my money back. I've been assured by my lawyer that I'm not responsible. I've also been in contact with a reporter for my local paper. I'll keep you updated on how it pans out.

You can claim injury all you wish but you were well enough to communicate with them and act functionally. It was YOU who failed to read what you were signing. Just another case of blaming everybody and anything else to cover up their own failures to be a smart consumer. Oh by the way, with your signature on the contract, you are responsible.
