When my husband and I picked up the car, we walked around the car with the rep to check for previous damage.  The back bumper had several "issues."  There were black scuff marks and what appeared to be minor scratches that we pointed out.  We even pointed out a black mark which the rep said was glue from a sticker.  Each time he waived off the problem as not something he was concerned about.  We then walked around the rest of the car and looked inside as well without seeing any other problems.  When we returned the car, the same rep came right to the back bumper and said that we would be responsible for the same damage to the bumper.   We asked if he remembered that we pointed them out to him and that he said they weren't a concern.   He said that he would check with previous reports and see if that "damage" was on them, and if not we would be responsible.    We received a form to report our side of the problem but before we even mailed it we received another letter from the home office saying that after reviewing the previous reports that we would be reponsible for the damage and that we were to pay $400.  PLEASE LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKE.  NOTE EVERY SINGLE MARK THAT YOU SEE ON THE REPORT BEFORE YOU TAKE THAT CAR OFF THE LOT.  DO NOT LET THE REP ASSURE YOU THAT ANYTHING IS OK.  Also, take pictures with your cell phone pointing to any mark or damage you see.  Ask to talk to another rep if he is not cooperative.

Seems like they are building a reputation for this rip off. Check out all the people on here they pulled that stunt on.
They tried it with me several years ago. Thankfully I haven't had to rent a car since then.

We faxed a letter detailing how we had pointed out all of the marks on the back bumper at the time that we picked up the rental car and that we were told by the rep that it was not "real damage."  We received a response that said that we were responsible for the damage to the rental car.  If we try to dispute this claim we have no recourse within the company.

Then, yesterday we received a letter threatening us if we did not pay in 10 days.  Here is the breakdown of our total charges:  Damages: $445.50, Administrative Fees:  $50.00, Loss of Use (3 days @ 43.24 day) $129.72, and they waived "diminishment of value ($44.55).  Total amount due is $625.22.  Also, they sent a photo of a bumper, and it doesn't even show the "damage" that the representative was pointing out to us that day.

We are reporting this to the BBB of Fairfax County, as well as the VA State Insurance Division for Consumer Protection.
