Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I purchased a Zmodo surveillance system sold by a number of online businesses but homesecurity361.com is the company I purchased from. Zmodo however, is the company that is refusing to take responsibility for the failed equipment.

I purchased an eight camera system with a DVR in July, 2011. Within the first month one of the cameras failed. It was replaced per their warranty policy. In June, 2012 the DVR failed. I contacted Zmodo and they said that they would ship out a replacement. After a week or so I inquired whenI was going to receive my replacement DVR. I was told that the model that they had sold me less than a year ago had been discontinued and were not willing to send a newer unit as a replacement. I was asked if I wanted my money back or have the unit repaired and that I would be responsible for the shipping costs.

I sent the unit back and a weel later they returned it to me having replaced a cooling fan and the external power supply. Less than a week later it locked up again. I contacted Zmodo and they said that they would issue another RMA. While I was waiting for the RMA the unit started working again and since I did not want to be without the system for a couple of weeks I did not send it back at that point.

Again less than a year later in June, 2013, the unit died, dead as a door nail. I talked to tech support and they asked me to do a number of things including swapping out the power supply for another, which I did. Nothing. Unit was dead and tech support said that he would call me back. After a few days, I contacted customer support regarding my issue and they said that they were "reviewing options". After another couple of days I was told that because I had not returned the unit on the July, 2012 RMA that Zmodo would NOT be offering me any solution to my problem.

So despite the fact that the DVR failed within the first 12 months and failed again within the next 11 months, Zmodo believes that I received an approporiate value in less than 21 months of operation for my $350. I know have an orphaned surveillance system that has no DVR and I don't see any value in that. Since consumer products are not covered under lemon laws, Zmodo is not under any legal obligation to replace the unit but their response goes to the failure of their moral and ethical sense of customer service and responsibility to ensuring quality products to consumers.

If Zmodo is proud of and content with products that will last less than two years in service with repeated operational issues and failures then all consumers should be made aware of the reputation that they are building. In the meantime the "security" that Zmodo sold me on does not exist and will not exist because the Zmodo product has failed. All consumers should know that when Zmodo tries to sell you a Security system that it should be relabeled as an Intermittent and Temporary Security System.

According to the BBB of Illnois, Zmodo has 7 (now 8) unresolved customer issues with products or customer service recently. In my opinion, anyone considering a surveillance system should stay away from the "carrot" of lower pricing that Zmodo is offering and find a more relaible product elsewhere.
