Hi I'm Melissa and I attended Everest College in Thronton, Colorado back in 2008-09. I went into the medical administrative assisting program where I took out a loan just for classes and books. I was told I could receive money to be sent to me for whatever I needed other then that and I declined. Well I had a family loss when my grandfather passed away and I was about 2/3 through the program, when I was told that if I took a few days off to go the the funeral in north Carolina that  I would be dropped from the program, so I stayed. I have a son and it was important to me to finish. Well the instructor started being unable to answer questions about things we were learning and I started getting fed up, especially when I found out I'd be the last person to be placed in an internship. So i dropped.

Well my mom convinced me to go back and finish, and they said I could just jump in at where I left off, just with a different teacher, however they made me take out a whole new loan even though I already had all the materials and was jumping in where I stopped and was already near done! Then they promise to help you find a job after graduation and that's a lie, every time I called they always told me they were still looking or that they could only find placing willing to hire that were 1-3 hours away from where I lived which they knew was impossible with my son being in daycare.

I then went to get a certificate in phlebotomy in hopes that I could make myself look even more hirable and knowledgeable but still couldn't even find employment on my own which I searched for over a year consistently on my own while I had to work at merry maids. Employers told me that my degree was no good and that they wanted people who were coming from schools such as CSU or CU. This school is a fraud! I have had my loans deferred twice and am now being harassed about paying them again and I refuse. I got ripped off and scammed two times! For one program! And my credit is being very negatively impacted by having these TWO loans out!! Help!

Yes. 99% of For Profit Colleges are Total SCAMS

#2Consumer Suggestion

I'm sorry you have been scammed. I found out about for profit colleges many years ago. I was living in Atlanta, GA and my boyfriend, a Felon, at the time kept being pursued by a local for profit college. The college was aggressively pursuing him to take a trucking course. He eventually signed up. He was enthusiastic by the money they told him he would be earning. Close to six figures. They were pursuing mostly poor, minority candidates and they had the candidates all apply for these massive Federal Loans.

Many of the candidates had criminal records and no mode of transportation. So the school would send around a van to  pick them up and drop them off. That is how eager the school wanted them to attend. Well, my boyfriend, thousands and thousands of dollars in debt finished the program only to immediately find out that he was unhirable by most trucking companies because with his background most trucking companies insurance carriers would not cover him. He had a DUI as well as many other violations.

The school KNEW he was unhirable and still goaded him and many others into getting these massive loans. Just to line their pockets. I call it the new "Fleecing of the Poor" because that's exactly what it is. These so-called 'for-profit' schools are popping up everywhere in America and they are charging several times for the education as a public university. These students are just being trapped in debt. All so their 'investors' can get rich. It's a get rich scheme. That is why the government is forcing many of them, including Everest, to shut down for good.

A few of these for-profit schools I called charged upwards of $40,000 a year for the same degree that a public university would charge $10,000 per year. It is just an insane difference. They are preying on people.

Now let me close with this.. You need to become a THINKER. You should realize America ALLOWS fraud and deception and Trickery at the HIGHEST LEVELS. It's mainly poor MINORITIES that are being preyed upon and lets face it America is a racist, classist society, it always has been, it always will be, and it doesn't care about poor minorities. They allow these massive companies to exploit us. Be wise. Every person in a suit and speaking fancy are not what they seem. Run away from most of these folks and search out the most affordable opportunities for yourself.

America wants you IN DEBT. STAY AWAY FROM DEBT. Debt is EVIL.
