My girlfriend has had auto insurance thru Farmers for 18 months. She got a good plan from a friend who works at a Farmers Agency. Recently however they don't get along very well and today my girlfrend finds out that her insurance has been cancelled without any notification or approval.

She called Farmers and they told her that she would have to speak to that agency's district manager. The District Manager wasn't there but the assistant District Manager was and he happened to be very rude and not very helpful. So she called back the agent who set up her insurance and said that her policy was cancelled on Sept 28th even though she paid for the month of October. The agent also said that she would have received letters stating that Farmers has cancelled her insurance and she has received no such mail.

We're both guessing that this is all because of her "friend". Is there any legal way to re-institate the insurance? Does anyone know the procedure? The only reason I ask is because we had a great deal for our cars and we've paid the premiums on time(because we have an auto-pay set up online). Nobody from Farmers wants to help us so if anyone can then thank you deeply.

INFORMATION FOR YOUR PROBLEM

#2Consumer Suggestion

Fri, January 21, 2005

I work for an agent and have heard this story many times. There are ways to help you can contact the DOI in Sacramento and file a complaint. Have all of your doc's together the DOI is there for the consumer. There is also a regional office in Pleasanton 925.847.0700 that can also help, they will let you know who cancelled the policy. If you were on a monthly billing and was behind on the payment they would have cancelled you wether you paid one month and it carried you into the next month. The second month it has to paid in full or they will cancel it, I am not saying that is the boat you were in, but that is usually the case. I hope that this works for you because if its the case something needs to be done with the employee. Another very very important law to know in the state of California you have to be licensed to transact any insurance policy, its against the law. The state of California has just bumped the fine to 50,000 and there are several other things that are done to the person and the agency. To many to list. Hope this helps.
