First, I had the same exact problem. I never ordered from them, some kind of balance appeared on my credit report and with some address I never lived at. Not to mention, on mine, they had a different name. Anyway, I just found this out a couple of months ago and received the same letter telling me that this will be removed from my credit report, etc. to please give them 45 days to do so. If you still have the letter sent to you stating that this was to be removed, here's what you can do: 1) You don't need to deal with Fingerhut or any collection agency. 2) File a dispute form with the credit agencies, telling them that this was to be removed before hand and has not been and let them know you are attaching a copy of the letter from Fingerhut indicating such. 3) File a complaint with the FTC. They have a form to file when this happens and can be searched on their main page. 4) Optional, send a letter to Fingerhut letting them know you are filing a dispute with any and all credit reporting agencies and the FTC. In accordance to law, the credit agencies must remove this debt within 30 days. You see, Fingerhut expects that people are stupid and don't know or won't figure out what they've done. Good Luck!
