‘I sent a message last week regarding having to take my car in twice for grinding noises (bearings/brakes), Took it to my closest Firestone about the grinding and the steering they say they fixed both. Still hear the grinding and the steering is a little better but still dangerous to drive in this condition ($400+). Took it back a following week and paid more to have the tires rotated and balanced. I mentioned is the noise/grinding gone. They couldn't hear anything but they said the rotation would take care of it. Took it to another location and he could hear it but I mentioned to him it only happens 25-35 MPH. He gassed it up (stick shift) from 25-35. the only thing you could hear was the engine! Its getting worse. I still haven't heard from customer service”.

This was going into fall winter 2013 so I could not look at it personally but I did have an opportunity of looking at this last weakened April 19th 2014 to find it was a front bearing!

 Second instance

This happened last weekend April 26th 2014.

I figured they couldn’t handle the last simple task but thought they would be able to handle tires? I purchased a nice set of rims and tires for my 98 jeep wrangler off Craigslist. I put them on myself, but when I did, notice there was a great wobble in the rear driver’s side tire! I took the tire off, put it back on thinking what is going on? Bad tire, Bad rim? I thought when putting it on… it didn’t seem like it was going on right, But why? I don’t know I’m no mechanic.

Limped it to the same Firestone as last year! I gave them instructions to check the back tire and rim. I might not need new tires! I do not want to buy new tires if not needed! I also instructed them that if it was the tires I need to keep them to try and recover monies from the Craigslist seller ($600.). They didn’t fix it that day, but called in the morning to find the first thing he said was the rim and tire in question were fine! Knowing that I had bad luck with them in the past… I double checked and asked them… so I don’t have new tires on the car do i. He said yes!!!!!! I said… you were not instructed to put new tires on it if there no problem with the tire in question. He said well… we can take them back off.  I said… uugg I will call you back when I figure out something. Meanwhile I get a call from the manager that said… it was the tire, and that is why they replaced it!  Now I’m really lost at this point. Here is the kicker…. They found another “problem” on the car drum, the drum that was causing the wobble. To find out there was a weight on the drum causing the new tire and rim not to mount correctly. To me, made sense. It wasn’t the tire or the rim. It was the balancer on the brake drum! Of course! Why did they replace all the tires and mount them to realize this in the end?  Their fix, knock the weights off! Perfect! wheel mounts correctly. I kept questioning so… that was probably the real problem… they couldn’t really answer this! I asked… so you marked the tire that is bad, right. No we just too them off and put new tires on!

 A lot of red flags!

Now I have a perfectly good set of used tires and a new set of tires I didn’t need all for $1100!

Is this safe to have these balancers knocked off?

District Manager or store manager has yet to respond back!

I have a firestone card and all but have learned my lesson!
