They do not follow instructions or requests, do not check the validity or functionality of links they create, and perhaps worst of all do not honor their professed money-back guarantee.
The links they create are black-hat or grey hat (i.e. risky) and can easily risk your site actually getting removed from or penalized by search engines (i.e. can lower your rankings). Such links can be done by anyone who visits forums and posts a comment, and are available via elance.com or other such sites from subcontractors who charge way less, however, as stated they are risky for your site.
