Last month I had the unfortunate experience of spending over $500 with Gibson Dependable's Ebay store (physically located in Carney's Point, New Jersey, and run by Ryan Ingram).

Here's the scoop: I purchased a 2006 USA Gibson guitar body and neck. Before I made the purchase I specifically asked the guys at Gibson Dependable if this was a non-chambered body (solid wood), or a chambered body (hollow and cheaper quality becuase Gibson started making chambered Les Pauls @ the end of 2006 to save money.) NON-CHAMBERED Gibson Les Pauls are worth considrrably more money, sound better and nowadays - are highly sought-after. GIbson dependable assured me in an email this as a NON-CHAMBERED Gibson Les Paul, so i made the purchase.

When i recieved the guitar, it felt kinda light compared to my older Les Pauls, and i suspected Gibson Dependable might have actually sold me a 'Chambered' (hollowed out) Les Paul.  This was major difference was finally clarified only when I personally called the Gibson Factory in Tennessee, gave them the serial number on the Les Paul that Gibson Dependable sold me, and was told by the Gibson Corporation (the MAKER OF THE GUITAR), that my guitar i just bought was, indeed, a lower-quality Chambered Les Paul. FYI: I still have all the email correspondence from the guys @ Gibson Dependable lying about the Les Paul they were selling me as non-chambered. (feel free to contact me for copies - I saved all the emails to prove it.)

I trusted Gibson Dependable. I took their word, and believed that this Les PAul I was buying was the higher quality, highly sought-after Non-Chambered version, because this is waht i was told. Was this an honest but huge mistake on the part of Gibson Dependable? Possibly ... So i contacted Gibson Dependable to request a warranted refund + the cost of shipping the CHambered Les Paul back to them.

But Ryan Ingram and Gibson Dependable refused to pay retrun shipping, telling me  “we do not believe the body to be chambered.“ As if what they believe disqualifies what the Gibson manufacturer is saying!

Bottom line: Ryan Ingram and Gibson Dependable flatly lied about a major aspect of this particular guitar, Period. Then refused to refund my shipping costs of more than $80.

I've been a musician/guitar player for over 20 years, and I've never experienced anything that stinks like this. Ryan Ingram and Gibson Dependable are not honest folks. Avoid at all costs.

The item in question was purchased by the complaintant through our store on Ebay. The item in question was a Gibson 2006 Alpine White Les Paul Studio Body/Neck. The 2006 dating was based on the Gibson serial number of the 1st and 5th numbers that would have been 06. Gibson Les Paul designed guitars through most of their history have been made as solid body guitars. This means the mahogany body has no holes or openings of any kind in it. However, starting in the 2007 Gibson catalog, Gibson specifications on for Les Pauls stated that their mahogany bodies were now chambered for weight relief. This design change lasted for a few years before Gibson switched back to full siolid bodies on their Les Paul models. The buyer had contacted us prior to their purchase asking if the guitar was chambered. Since there is no real way to know if a Les Paul is chamberd or solid, short of cutting it open, we pointed to the Gibson catalog specifications for 2006 Les Paul Studio models. After receiving the guitar the buyer contacted us with their opinion that it was not a solid body, but chambered. The buyer claimed they had contacted Gibson and obtained confirmation of their claim, though they never provided us with any proof of this. Since the buyer was not satified with their purchase we allowed them to return the guitar under our 60 day return policy. In accordance with that policy the buyer received the full refund as required under our policy. This included the purchase cost of the item and the original shipping cost. The buyer then demanded we pay the return shipping cost as well. However, as stated in our return policy, we only refund return shipping costs if the item delivers not as described. Since the buyer could provide no evidence to the contray, we asserted that our representation of the guitar was accurate based on the Gibson 2006 catalog specifications for this model. The buyer was therefore responisble for the return shipping costs under our return policy for items that arrive as described. Since that time the buyer has harrassed our good store name through the Better Business Bureau and through websites like Ripoff Report because they were forced to pay approximatly $35 in return shipping costs, according to their return shipping label, and not $80 as they claim. The Better Business Bureau dropped the buyers case after we provided the BBB with proof of our return shipping policy and documentation from Gibson's 2006 catalog specifications on this model. The buyer could provide no proof from the manufacture to the BBB of their claim. We consider the matter closed and feel bad that any other potential buyers could be swayed from purchasing good quality guitar parts and projects from one of the top rated stores on Ebay all because of one unreasonable buyers exausted efforts.
