A young boy came to the house with a strange look. He said he was selling magazine subscriptions to win a trip and a scholarship. These kids are really trained. I have a College plate on my car and when I asked him where he was going to go, he said that school. Duh! I knew he wasn't of that calibre; but, I let it pass. He seemed really nervous and when I asked his name, he turned and nearly ran away. Next day, a young girl showed up. She looked strangely familiar; and, I am fairly certain looking back that they were brother and sister. She said the neighbors had purchased and again was trying to earn a scholarship and trip. I felt so bad about the boy running from me in fright, I decided to hear her out.

I know better now. When you get that feeling of aprehension, you should heed it. She came right into my home. Said she was homeschooled and just moved to Niles (a short way from our house). I went into my office (I have a home office) and my company checks were laying on my desk. Duh! I have a cross at my front door (now, she's Baptist) and of course she gets more points if I use a personal check AND a company check to pay for my subscriptions which turn out to be 5 times the actual subscription price. Then, she writes some numbers on the order form and says, "this is your rebate". So, she led me to believe that while I am giving her a check for $56, I'll be getting $32.00 back from the magazine company.

Okay, why would a grown adult business woman fall for this...and overlook lie after lie after lie. I didn't want to believe she would lie to me and cheat me.

Now, it looks like it's worse than that. After she left (like 5 minutes too late) I went to the web and sure enough the BBB had reports on them. I called the police and they had reports. I looked up the GLC website and it says "not affiliated with any scholarship program".

It was an act of God that the check didn't get cashed. I had kept her until 5:55 and she ran to a waiting white van as if her life depended on it. The banks close at 6:00. I called first thing in the morning and stopped payment on both checks and put a watch on any transactions by GLC. Then, I overnighted the cancellation and required a signature.

I received a postcard for each order showing I cancelled in time and thought the nightmare was over. Not by a mile. Several weeks later, I receive a threatening collection letter from Check Game Solutions in Florida for the business check. Never received one for the personal check. Not sure why. I called them and GLC and threatened them with the Attorney General's Office. They didn't send my checks back, so I filed complaints with the AG in Colorado, Indiana, and Florida.

GLC then called and said they would send back my check and cancel the collections process. I thought it was over...Wrong!

This month I receive another threatening letter from Check Game Solutions and now they've added more charges to it.

So, I filed a report with the FTC. Please do the same. They said if they receive enough reports on the same company they will take action. Go to https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01 and tell your story.

They have gone after several other companies like this one and fined them or shut them down. PLEASE file a report!

I made a purchase with this company by credit card for my daughter (Nickelodeon Jr.) and a second purchase by personal check, which I was told would be donated to a children's hospital or something like that. After the salesman left our home, I felt nervous about what I had done, so I ran a couple of Web searches on this company. That is how I came across this sight. I immediately called Great Lakes Circulation (aka Face-to-Face Technologies) and asked to cancel my orders. I was told (very politely) that I would have to follow the instructions on the back of my receipt. I followed these instructions explicitly, and my credit card account was credited within a week for the full amount I had charged. After a couple of weeks, I received a letter requesting a copy of my cancelled check. I mailed the copy to Great Lakes. Within two weeks, I had a refund check for the amount of my check to them. That was my experience with this company. I hope this will help someone else who is deciding what to do next.
