Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

Con-artists posing as builders. Greencastle, Shawn Harvey and John McIntyre talk a good game and seem knowledgeable but are incompetent and unable to deliver quality product and are FRAUDS! Misappropriation of funds from mortgage and personal checks. Incompetent work and subcontractors. 1) Had to replace entire roof due to defective work from Capitol Roofing (leaks, no flashing, etc.), which is now out of business 2) Windows not waterproofed or framed properly, and had to be redone. 3) ICF doors did not fit properly for standard door, and concrete slab had to be cut for proper fit 4) Had to replace A/C as it was not done to code, and had to pay Dale's AC a $9K lien + legal fees, as contractor wasn't paid after Greencastle received money from mortgage. 5) Prepaid work never completed, and work done of subpar quality and monies misappropriated. 6) Framing had to be redone, due to untreated wood and used form boards and poor quality. Several liens were filed because Greencastle failed to pay contractors after receiving money from bank draws and personal checks for contractors. Incurring large legal and engineering fees to fix mess Stay Away from Greencastle, Shawn Harvey or John McIntyre! Over 2 years, house still not 50% completed, most of work had to be repaired and out hundred's of thousands of dollars. Worst experience ever, and every fear of corrupt builders in SW FL came true.

#2REBUTTAL Owner of company

Thu, May 18, 2017

Dr. Shawn Miller and his wife Karen Miller breached the construction contract by stopping the job and refusing to pay their bills. Despite numerous and repeated requests to talk things through and find a way forward they decided to terminate their contract and welsh on their debts. The workmanship throughout the project was excellent and we have an abundance of documentation to prove it! We have photos, county inspection records, architect’s inspection reports, engineering inspection records and more. Not only did we meet our obligations under the contract, we exceeded them in several key areas. The Millers hired an unqualified inspection company who are actually licensed pool cleaners and roof painters to produce a report alleging construction defects. The inspection company made statements such as “the wood soffit is not sturdy enough to support the concrete roof overhangs”. When in fact the roof edges were supporting the wood framed soffits! Greencastle, on the other hand, hired the most competent and qualified expert in Florida to inspect the work and he complimented us on the workmanship by stating that his company is often hired by the owners of Port Royal mega mansions to follow the concrete contractors around to TRY to get the quality that he observed on the Miller’s job. The window waterproofing was scheduled to begin at the time the job was stopped, as the architect and the owners knew. Regarding used form boards- there is nothing wrong with using a piece of plywood twice when it is still in good condition. We are after all trying to build in an environmentally friendly way. The roof(ing) did not need replaced when the job was stopped but after being left to spoil for months in an incomplete state of completion (66% billed) during the summer in SW Florida it wouldn’t be surprising to most people. And to complain about the delays, really? We were still trying to get them to make selections on finish materials after more than a year of planning and construction.   Regarding mismanagement of construction funds, this is an outright lie!  Not a single penny of their funds was spent inappropriately and we have the documentation to prove it from Quickbooks to bank records to invoices and right down to the trucking tickets for every single load of dirt delivered! And yes, several liens were filed because that is what you do when dishonest people cheat you and refuse to pay for goods and services that went into the construction of their property.  No reasonable person would have difficulty understanding this concept! Greencastle has nothing to hide and nothing to be ashamed of in this unnecessary mess and we can prove every word and more! The result for Greencastle is that we got stuck with over $40,000 in bills not including the tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees and they got a lot of value for free. And that is the kind of people that we were dealing with… Dr. Miller and Mrs. Miller created this entire situation and would now like to add insult to injury by harming Greencastle’s reputation. Consider the source…
