HILFORD MOVING COMPANY was scheduled to deliver personal items to my residence. On the day of delivery, I was told that their truck wouldn't fit on my street, and I needed to okay an additional charge >$400 or else I couldn't have my items back. I asked if I had any other options to regain possession of my items, and was told "no".

I later saw other large moving trucks parked in front of my building, and sent pictures to the moving company. I said their truck would fit on my street, and here was proof. They deliberated for many months, as I continually contacted them for updates on the status.

Finally, they said the actual reason for the charge was that I was not available to take delivery of the items. I said this was bogus, and offered copies of my phone statements where you could see multiple calls to the moving company from my phone before and on the delivery date. They were not interested in reviewing these documents.

Why really happened? On the scheduled day of delivery, when I called in to check on the status of my delivery, the person at Hilford Moving Company told me they were having trouble getting in touch with the driver. They apparently had some scheduling problem. I'm the one that had to pay for their lack of planning.

This is a response to an unwarranted attack on Hilford Moving & Storage, Ventura, CA by a Mike in Seattle, Wa. 1. The move was performed by Allied Van Lines, for whom Hilford is an agent. Hilford was not, and could not have been a party to the Seattle delivery situation. 2. Contrary to allegations made, no claim was made that the road unit could not access the delivery area. At the time delivery was requested, the street was under repair, precluding direct delivery by the road unit. 3. Post facto evidence was presented to illustrate the access, which ignored the conditions at time of delivery. 4. The allegations by Mike were presented to the BBB for arbitration, which found for Hilford Moving & Storage, as stated in their decision. "I find that the charges were called for in the contract, were reasonable under the circumstances and were approved by the shipper. I also find that there was no duress in his approval."
