HotBookSale SmartSavingsCenter Scam charges Fraudulent activity Sly charges beware $5 discount = $1 charge+ $29.95 fee Boca Raton Florida
choosing a book on their Hotbooksale website, a $5 discount has already been deducted - sounded fair enough. the book was then $2.92 and shipping was free. In the fine print (maybe) they then charge you a $1.00 fee for the SmartSavingcenter. This was charge was not shown anywhere. This is a fraudulant "back door" charge where HotBookSale.com hand your banking/credit card details off to SmartSavingsCenter without your permission. On cancelling the "membership" which is apparently what you sign up for, they then charge the monthly fee anyway - $29.95. So my account has been charged $2.92 for the book, $1 membership fee plus $29.95 for a months m'ship. All the additional charges were unknown at the point of agreeing to the book sale.
Beware. Calls to either HotBookSale.com 888-646-1662 or SmartSavingsCenter.com 800-511-6538 are met with disbelief over the additional charges. I will contact my CC company to cancel my card. Beware of "discounts" offered in line when using a Credit card online as it results in additional charges to your card.
