I was online with one of two sites. I honestly do not remember which one, when I was kicked to the Privacy Matters site. Their site, I must say, looks legit, but never judge a book by it's cover or a web site bearing free gifts by it's professional looks.

I'm not mentioning the two sites, one of which bumped me to the Privacy Matters site, because my beef isn't with them, unless of course, they are aware of the fraudulent goings on at Privacy Matters. At this point I don't know which one or if it was some other site I've forgotten having visited.

I read all of the information at the Privacy Matters site and decided to take the offer of the FREE credit reports. I got no reports and they weren't free. First they charged me a dollar, OK, I accepted that and then while checking my bank statement online I noticed a 29.95 charge from Privacy Matters. Instant red flag.

I know I didn't sign up for a $29.95 charge. It was a one time thing as far as I could find. So I called them today, the phone # attached to the 29.95 charge which is 800-436-0817. The phone # attached to the $1.00 charge is 877-993-6264.

I am also disabled and thought I was going to get a free credit report (free for a dollar) and that would be that. Was I ever wrong. Not only did they charge me on the same credit card as the one dollar charge, they intended to charge me $29.95 every month, I suppose, on into eternity.

When I called them this morning I got Andy on the phone. Andy has a very foreign accent. I suspect it is Indian (as from India). I always get Indians when I call for help with the computer, I know what their accents sound like. I asked him what the charge was and he told me "for credit reports"; note the plural. At that point I realized I had made a big mistake in not checking them out before laying my credit card # on the line. So I told him I needed to put the charge onto a different card. That was when he excused himself and offered his Supervisor to take care of it for me.

Then I met Shweta whose company ID # is 16033. She told me she could charge a different credit card for the next months charges but the one already charged could not be reversed - credited back to me. WHAT? "Next months charges..." That was when it hit me like a ton of bricks that they planned on charging me $29.95 every month.

I am disabled and live on a fixed income. She began to get huffy with me when I told her that, and said in as non-friendly manner as she could, "just what do you want me to do?" I said, "stop the charges and refund the one already paid". Nowhere did I read anything about recurring charges on a monthly basis. Suddenly she calmed down and SAID she will stop the charges and remove the one charge that is on my bank account. That is why I wrote down her name (which she spelled for me without my asking) and I asked for her ID # which she then provided. Andy gave me his ID as well but I was walking with the phone at the time and couldn't remember it.

That is all the information I have concerning the issue. I do not know if I will actually see a credit back to me on my debit account. The charge took 5 or 6 days to hit the account. I'm guessing they will take even longer to credit it back. I'm in "wait and see" mode at this time.
