ILD, "ILD Tel To" ,as Appeared On Credit Card Bill, ILD Teleservices ,ILD payphone charges on credit card -- advertised as $1 for 4 mins, charged as $22! Ponte Vedra Beach Florida
I will never pay for a phone call with a credit card again.
I needed to call my sisters from the airport in Salt Lake City. I was already at the gate, I had been up for 24 hours, and I had 80 cents in change and a $100 bill. The sign on the payphone said that calls within the continental US were 25 cents per minute with a 4-minute minimum, so I needed $1 in change to make the call.
Instead of going back to the terminal to find a shop to give me change for $100, I thought I'd use my credit card to pay for the call.
Now, upon receiving my credit card bill, I've found that instead of $2-3 for the 8- or 10-minute call I made, they're charging me $22.56. There was never any statement of extra charges, either on the printed ad on the phone or given verbally over the phone before I was connected.
Fraudulence, thy name is ILD Teleservices.
And the most annoying thing is, rather than spending an hour of my time on hold waiting to be abused by disgruntled customer (dis)service representatives, I'll probably let them get away with my $20. At least writing this report has been somewhat cathartic, as is knowing that I'm definitely not the only one to get ripped off this way, but for goodness' sake. Somebody stop these people!
