I had the misfortune of purchasing a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu from Imperial Chevrolet two years ago. I opted to also purchase what they described as a GM 3 year/36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. This came with a hefty price tag of $1500. My sales person also promised to replace various parts that were missing from the car (i.e. the passenger side visor that was missing).

I never received a copy of my service contract. I asked several people for a copy and they just said "...we have it on record, don't worry about it...". My sales person hasn't returned a call to me concerning the missing visor or the lack of a contract. Imperial Sales apparently does not get involved after they receive their commissions.

I have had three major service calls and some assorted minor problems including a GM recall in the short time that I have owned the car. It's in need of another service call and it honestly has never run the way it did on the test drive. Imperial would tell me that it's not their problem, they didn't make the car.

Two of my service calls were for massive coolant leaks. I was charged for duplicate deductibles even though they clearly did not fix the problem on the first trip. I was also charge a $100 deductible for an item that was part of a recall.

On my last trip to Imperial service, I had a massive coolant leak. They identified a faulty oil sensor. They replaced the switch and did a very POOR job of cleaning the surrounding leaked oil. They put new oil in the car and left the pre-existing oil filter. I was then told that I would be charged for the repair because my full warranty didn't cover the engine. The service person stated that I should take up my unhappiness with the alleged extending warranty company and gave me a phone number. I called the number he gave me and they stated that I DO NOT HAVE A WARRANTY.

At this point, being highly irate and somewhat confused, I sent a certified letter to the president of Imperial Chevrolet, hoping for some assistance. The result of my letter was a phone call from the the agent that did my paperwork. He claimed that I was told that this was not a GM warranty (not true!) and that he gave me paperwork stating coverage at the closing (also a blatant lie!). He would not address any of my problems other than to offer to send me out a copy of my coverage. I am waiting for that in the mail now.

At no point did an agent of Imperial show me that they cared about me as a customer. They functionally took my money for mis-represented goods and services and washed their hands of me. I am escalating this situation to Chevrolet for satisfaction. If they cannot help me, I will be contacting the BBB and the Mass AG. I have come accross horror stories from other victems of Imperial Chevrolet and their lack of customer service, including my own mother.

If you are in the market for a new or used car, stay clear of Imperial Chevrolet. They may be a large, wealthy organization but their recent reputation speaks for itself.

I've been sent a good will reimbursement for the service fees on the vehical and the second deductible charged for the coolant leak. Their accompanying letter finally agreed that there was a problem and showed the approprate empathy. Imperial has statisfied this situation.

Massachusetts as a strong lemon law much stronger than hear in rhode island. If the car you are driving has had the same proplem time and time again then I suggest you should seak legal councill. And call the mass registry of motor vehicals also call the local chamber of commerance to see if they can help you. Used car sales men are generaly dishonest I have been to a few used car dealer ships in ri and mass looking for one particuler car and then the salesmen as tried to sell me something eles I finley have learned after three cars to trust my feelings on a car. I try not to deal with sales persons anywere I shop I kno what i want and i get it now. Dealer ships also play games they will recondision a car and not even tell you. You can find this out bye cecking carfax.com Its worth the money. I have found this out bye looking for a starsky and hutch car many will say it was original when in fact it was a wrecked torino repbuilt. Good luck in your used car search. Best bet is buying new if you can or going to a private sale or auction. we have one guy hear in rhode island who had been building thease starsky and hutch cars he is at least honest about it. Also never pay for a extened warrenty on a used car most good car dealer ships will over a used warrenty for free for so many mounths. Lets face it you kno the car is used when buying it, But a good dealer ship will honer repairs withen so many days if they want customers to keep comming back.

This guy from Imperial who sent me my contract won't stop calling me. He is quite rude on voicemail and answering machine messages. Since the people who have responded to my inquiries thus far have shown little care for me as a human being, let alone a cusotmer, I'd rather they just cease and desist all communications. I've purchased some poster boards and have been driving around on good days with Anti-Imperial propaganda attached to my car (The car doesn't run well, might as well be good for something!). I've received an overwhelmingly positive response from people. Everyone has a horror story about this dealership. One woman was charged thousands for a air ride system within sixty days of purchasing a car. Another small business owner was charged $1600 for a breakjob on his van. The orginal pitted rotors were left on his van. I'm honestly not certain why or how this company is still in business.

Imperial Chevrolet Sends Contract

#5Author of original report

An agent of Imperial Chevrolet sent me the copy of the 1 page contract that I signed. He also sent me the lengthy "part 2" of the contract that I had not seen before. While I maintain that I was verbally told that I was purchasing a GM warranty, the contract (signed by me) does state another company by the name of CNC. At the time of the sale I was given a verbal list of items not covered and shown one page of "part" of the contract. The part that they showed me was very misleading. It expressly states a short list of items not covered. None of these items applied to my case. They included items such as tires, batteries and other such no-brainers. I called another CSR at the warranty company (CNC) who stated that the previous person had been incorrect and I do indeed have a warranty. He also stated that I should have asked for the WHOLE booklet before I signed the paperwork. There are several more exclusions if you are given the FULL booklet. I am negligent in trusting the salesperson and not requesting the FULL document before signing the contract. The contract does specify CNC and the whole "part 2" of the contract does indicate that my part is not covered. While I submit the above new information in my case with Imperial, I am still feeling that this matter is un-resolved. 1. Nobody ever addressed the verbally promised visor that was missing from passenger side at the time of purchase. 2. While I should have asked to read the entire booklet before signing the warranty contract, I still feel mislead. Why would you point me towards a "not covered section" if there are MANY more exclusions in the book. 3. I still feel that a new filter should have been put on when repairing the massive leak. Before taking my repaired vehical to my mechanic for an oil change, I spent quite a bit of time cleaning oily mess that was left by the mechanics. After I spent money in good faith at Imperial along with other relatives, I would hope that they would at least give me quality service if they feel compelled to charge me for it. 4. I have yet to feel that Imperial cared about my situation. It just felt like they wanted me to dissappear at every step. To conclude, I will never do business with Imperial again and will continue to warn others. I will not pursue any further remedy for my situation as I have no proof of what they verbally promised me.

Correction to Imperial Chevrolet Report

#9Author of original report

Wed, April 20, 2005

The last service call was due to a massive oil leak, not a coolant leak. They also failed to address the intermittent problems with the ignition on this visit.
