Complaint Review: Irene Barry - Lakeview Oregon

My complaint revolves around a landlord (I use that term loosely sans the alternative).  This womans name is Irene Barry and she is a wretched thief, liar, and manipulator.  She would steal the pennies off of a dead mans eyes. 

Landlords should be licensed and inspected in addition to the legislative statutes that are supposed to govern their conduct and practices.  I believe additional regulations and requirements would reduce the abuses perpetuated by Irene Barry.   

Irene Barry portrays herself as a landlord in Lakeview, Oregon.  She enjoys a certain prominence, visibility, and status in the community, yet her sincerity and authenticity are sadly in question.  She presents all kinds of seemingly legitimate appearances and false fronts in society; all the while stooping to assorted lows for her almighty dollar. 

The run down junk that she categorizes as a house or lodging space should be zoned as a tenement slum and condemned for destruction.  From faulty electrical outlets and shoddy construction to plumbing issues, insulation, and lack of maintenance, these structures leave something to be desired, not to mention the owners crummy attitude of, you can handle that yourself, or get one from the dump or the appliance salvage store.    

I was forced to replace an entire moldy, soaked insulation crumbling wall; as well as the sieve-leaking roof that had caused the damage.  At my expense of course because when pointed out to Irene Barry and her husband, I was informed That was already fixed once before.  Just use some of that old barn metal to fix the roof.  (I have the pictures of the before, during, and after process).  I was later charged for some alleged damage and repair to non-existent porch rails and a torn / dirty screen door.  There were never any porch rails when I got there and Irene Barry acknowledged the damaged door was from the previous pipe liner tenants, but indicated, Oh Richard can fix that.  I took it off, put it in the storage room, and re-installed it when I left.  

I wasn't going to clean up others messes that were the landlords responsibility.  Yet for reasons of retaliatory conduct, (I had previously taken legal issue with her actions for entering the property while I was still paying and current on rent and removing my belongings), she decided to lie, cheat, and steal.  Could I have taken the course of Small Claims Court?  Absolutely, but I have more important things to do than get into a battle of ethics and integrity with unarmed people.  I choose to take the high road and shake off the dust. 

I replaced and stained window molding from another leak with an old wood stove chimney flue (also repaired that section of roof).  I painted the entire interior of the house, the exterior front wall area, and replaced two storm doors so they would match, (my dog damaged ONE of them).  I left high dollar custom aluminum blinds because they went with the house and she rented it to me with nary one window covering, just indicated you can find some blinds at garage sales around here. 

I plowed and disked alfalfa pasture for her husband, a rancher named Bill Barry; and even spent two days baling hay for them when one of her brothers died.  All of which was supposed to be paid at $12 / HR, but they conveniently forgot to pay me and later informed me, You didnt submit your hours.  Theres an illegally installed septic system at the rental location because Bill Barry said Im not paying those fees on my own land, we just need to hurry up and bury it before the inspector finds out.  I felt strong-armed because I had notice of being laid off from my job and the Barrys indicated you still need a place to stay so help fix this. 

Its appalling to see the greed and selfishness shadowed behind the smoke and mirrors when the Barrys masquerade as great community servants, churchgoers, and volunteers.  They are filled with entitlement issues, and only concerned with their accumulation of wealth; regardless of how unscrupulous or wrong that pursuit becomes.  Although a leopard cant change his spots, Irene & Bill Barry can certainly change their face.  Word to the wise, be wary of who you do business with.

Fortunately, Im blessed to have worked with a good Realtor and purchased a very comfortable and quaint home.  I can park my truck where I want to, tie my dog where I want to, and install shelves and decorations anywhere I see fit.  Additionally, I dont have unsupervised youngsters tearing through my front yard and driveway on 4 wheelers and motorcycles.  Good riddance.
