I too am from New York and am taking JK Harris to court in Albany where they have their satellite office. The maximum amount in Albany Small Claims is $5000 and not $3000. I verified this on Friday 2/18/2005.

NOrmally I would suggest that you take JK to small claims court. They do not make an appearance, and you will win. Unfortuanately in NY the limit in small claims is $3,000, this is less than half your funds. I suggest that you get a good attorney on a contingency fee bases. He will probable charge 30%, but it would be more that you will recover in small claims. Small claims has worked with people I've suggested this to in MA, MI, CA, VA. Good luck
