I went to the Joann fabric store in our town.  I did get the flyer in the mail and there was a big sale on clearance fabric.  I had gone thru things in my sewing room (I am a big sewer!) and made a list of fabrics and yardage I wanted to purchase.

I went to the local Joann's and spent about an hour choosing fabrics I wanted to purchase.  I had 2 carts of fabric.   I went to the cutting table and a clerk asked if she could help me.  I gave her a bolt of fabric and let her know how much yardage I wanted.  As she started unfurling the fabric it was discovered that pieces of 1 1/2 yards had been cut and then put back on the bolt (several of the bolts I chose had this).  So after we dealt with that, she preceeded to cut my fabric and then wadded it up and thru it in a hand basket on the counter behind her.

I asked her to fold it properly as wadding it up was NOT acceptable to me.  She stated that it would be refolded at the checkout.  Never has been before.  I said to her that if she didn't want to take the time to fold it to hand it to me and I would fold the fabric.SO for 30 something fabrics she cut and i very painstakingly folded my own fabrics.

Then we proceeded to the checkout where she UNFOLDED each fabric wadded it up and shoved it in the bag!!!!!!!  I just stood there with my mouth open.

I was not happy.   I called the 1-800 number immediately.  I was put on hold and hung up on 3 times.

I decided to drive to the FORT WAYNE INDIANA joann's because they are a larger store.

Similiar problem with small yardage of fabric being cut and then rewound on the bolts.  I wound up not purchasing half the fabric I wanted.

There was an older lady  cutting fabric for other customers next to the lady cutting my fabrics.  when there was a small amount of fabric left on the end of the bolt this lady would offer it to the customer at half price.  Not once did the lady cutting mine do that.   In fact at one point she even cut two inches off and threw it in the trash.

So I called the 1-800 again.   Finally got someone on the  line.  After relating both negative experiences I was told that a district manager would call me back in 24-48 hours.  A  week later I once again called the 1-800 number because NO ONE had called me.    I talked to a person named nathan who was sorry I had been blown off and took my info again and said if someone didnt call within 24 hours to email him.  48 hours later I emailed him and let him know that no one had yet contacted me.

Another call to the 1-800 and the ms nice girl gloves came off.   Finally I get a call from the REGIONAL manager.

Who informed me that UNfolding the fabric at the checkout was indeed a policy as people hide items in folded fabric.   To which I answered that never has it happened before at any joann stores.   I also informed him that a THEIF THINKS  EVERYONE STEALS.  I got a few empty words as to how the employees will be retrained blah blah blah.  No  offers of discount coupons nothing.

And when I emailed their website, no response.

HANCOCK FABRICS IS MY NEW CHOICE FOR FABRIC AND CRAFTS!

Joann simply does not care about customers!

After posting my experience at Joann Fabrics I sent a link to JF.  Amazingly, I goting what I a call today from the district manager who could not stop apologizing for the way I was treated.

He wanted to know what it was I wanted and how they could keep me as a customer!

Based on your obnoxious attitude, I will bet that Joann fabric stores will not spend any time grieving the loss of your business.

They are probably celebrating.  I would be.

While I am not defending them not calling you back when they said they would, or how fabric "should" be sold.  However, there are a couple of statements make it appear as if you have never worked in a retail envrioment in your life.

I asked her to fold it properly as wadding it up was NOT acceptable to me.

Is the fact that you had 30 different fabrics have something to do with them refolding it..possibly. But even out of "courtesy" I don't see a problem of you folding the fabrics up as the lady is cutting them.  If for nothing else but to save yourself probably 10-15 minutes of time.  I would bet that the lady cutting the fabric was just as tired of pulling off the small pieces of fabric as you were.

Who informed me that UNfolding the fabric at the checkout was indeed a policy as people hide items in folded fabric.

- Yes, unfortunatly this does happen.  You would be surprised what people will try and "hide" in things that they are actually buying.  So while they never checked before, because people have done that they are going to check now.  If you want to blame someone blame the people that have done this.

I also informed him that a THEIF THINKS EVERYONE STEALS.

- So basically you called the Regional Manager a thief.  Then with that and the statement earlier about "ms nice girl gloves come off",  you wondering why you didn't get any offers of discount coupons?  The way the way you wrote this report I doubt the "nice girl gloves" were ever on.

(I am a big sewer!)

- By the way that is probably NOT a good phrase to use, as it does have an alternate meaning.  Perhaps you can try Seamstress or Tailor(as the case may be).
