November 22, 2003 after shopping at several bridal shops for my daughters wedding gown we went to State College to Kaufman's Wedding World. She had narrowed her search down to one dress at another store a Maggie Sottera gown. At Kaufman's the first dress she tried on was her dream dress.

She did not want to financially commit to the dress that day. We were told by the clerk that they were running a special sale that was ending that day. They assured us that they could also order the Maggie Sottera dress if she decided she really wanted that one instead.

Since the Maggie dress was more expensive than the dress she liked at Kaufman's they told us that if we committed to and paid at least the cost of the dress that they had in the store, they would give us the sale price that day. I charged the full amount of the dress on my credit card. We could then decide which gown we wanted to order two days later when we returned for measurements.

On November 24, 2003 her gown, slip and veil were ordered. Even though her wedding date is not until July 24, 2004, we requested that her wear date be listed as May 23, 2004. They assured us that they would order the dress with a request date of the first week of April 2004 and a wear date for the end of May.

We have been trying since the first week of April to receive information regarding the shipment of her dress and accessories. The store manager tells me that she needs to get that information from the corporate headquarters. Corporate headquarters are the ones that order the dress and check on the shipments. She also informs me that she has not been able to contact the store headquarters. I was given the customer service phone number which is a joke. An answering machine and no one ever returns my calls.

On May 18 I was promised by the store manager that the dress was in shipment and that the dress would be in the store no later than Friday, May 21. The dress is still not here and they now do not know when it will arrive.

I have requested a refund from Kaufman's Wedding World, but of course that needs to come from the elusive corporate headquarters. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and have requested a refund from my credit card company.

Anyone out there who has had similar problems please respond. I have heard the management uses your money and never orders the dresses until the last possible moment and that they stock gowns that have been discontinued and that is why people never receive their gowns. When I tell people about the problems with Kaufman's Wedding World they either have had their own horror stories or know of someone who has too.

Future brides please do not shop at Kaufman's Wedding World, there are plenty of bridal shops out there who really will be honest and care about what is to be the most special day of your life. No just out to take your money and run.

I live in Anguilla, a British island in the Eastern Caribbean. This report suggests that Pennsylvania is located on my island, which of course it is not. The report seems to be entirely unrelated to Anguilla, and I'd like to disassociate my people from the unfortunate experience reported. Thanks!
