Once my family and I went on a trip to London. We wanted to learn about the climate of the city and the English culture first hand. We rather enjoyed everything, the weather was unpredictable like a woman’s mood, but two days in we got used to it. Our family visited a lot of various places: different exhibitions, an amusement park. We really liked the city’s architecture and rhythm, and, as for the London taxis, they were beyond expectations. The London taxi drivers are real pros, and, even though their services were not cheap, we took taxis all the time.

While driving in taxis around the city, my wife and I noticed a poster advertising a theater play «Law Offices of Stefan Coleman». Immediately we were burning with desire to see it. However, we had to decide with whom to leave our kids while we were there. We hesitated about asking my parents to stay with them (we had never done so before), but finally we asked them. They gladly agreed and we went to buy the tickets.

We found a ticket office near our hotel but were told that all the tickets had already been sold out. However, since we really wanted to see the play very much, we did not give up – my wife suggested that we should search for the tickets on the Web. After searching for quite a while, we finally found an ad where a man offered two tickets at an affordable price. We called him and agreed that he would meet us right before the play, near the entrance to the theater. The man’s name was Bill Smith, and he explained to us that he had bought 3 tickets – 1 for himself and 2 for his friends, but they had to leave and could not come.

Two days later my wife and I dressed up, like in old good times, and went for our romantic date looking forward to seeing «Law Offices of Stefan Coleman». At 19.30 we were at the entrance. Bill described how he would be dressed, and even sent us his picture, so that we could recognize him at once. As time passed and he was not yet there, we began to worry and called him. He said that he was a little late, but would definitely be there before the play begins. We felt a little relieved. At 19.55 (the play was to start at 20.00) Bill finally appeared. We paid him $1000 for both tickets and he disappeared into the crowd. We hurried too, but then something awful happened. Out tickets did not scan right, and the security man called his boss to clarify the situation.

A very neat elderly man came and scrutinized our tickets. He said that he would need to check the database and, several minutes later, he was back saying that our tickets were not on the database, and that they were fake. He asked us where we had bought them, and, when we told him, he said that it was not the first time, that we should take more care and buy tickets only in specialized ticket offices. And so, we went home, ashamed, and in low spirits.
