i called larry oakes about my 1998 honda cr-v ex and asked him to check out my car for possible fuel pump problem.the charge for that was $120.00 which $50.00 went to expenses and $70.00 would apply to fixing the car if i had him fix it.so without checking anything else on the car and after calling someone to ask about the fuel pump trouble shoot why i was standing next to him,he came to the conclusion it was the entire fuel pump assembly.so i orderd it from the honda parts store.cost $362.00 +$100.00 more to install the fuel pump assembly.after he finished putting it in,we tried to start it and it would not start.he then went to the distributor and and opened it up a tested the parts inside for spark and pulled out a spark plug and said i needed to replace the whole distributor assembly and plugs and wires, and he said he would work with me on fixing it,cause he knew times were tuff.So i did order the whole distributor assembly cost$252.00.So i got it and decided to put it in my self.

after i finshed installing it,i got in and it started right up.????? i started thinking why didnt he check the distributor first.so i called 2 different pro mechanics and told them what i just wrote down and they said it sounds fishy to them.the one pro said how could he properly test the fuel pump, with the distributor/coil/rotar/igniter all being dead. they told me to ask for the parts that he replaced so they could test them for me.So i called larry oakes and asked him for my old parts back and he asked why and became very angry and defensive.i told him he had miss diagnosed my car and that a mechanic had told me how do you properly test a fuel pump with a completly dead distributor assembly.he said he had throne the parts away yesterday.i insisted on him returning the parts and he said i was out of luck and there was nothing he could do.i tan said i will file a lawsuit against you. he called me back 10 minutes later and he said he checked the trash bin that he put the parts in and it had been emptied by the trash company. So who knows do i have any protection.did i get ripped off from this guy for $582.00.when he should of diagnosed the proplem by going to the engine componets first.instead of creating a problem just to make a living off of a disabled person such as my case.please help

i am sorry but i have seen this before--you probably told him it needed a fuel pump as you say a possible fuel pump--since you were standing there--you probably dictated how to test it(as you say you were right there)--there is nothing i hate more than the customer who doesn't know-stands there and tells you what the problem is--he probably just felt pressured by you and since you probably insisted it was the fuel pump--he probably just said ah f**k it, it's the fuel pump--you didn't leave him alone and let him do his job----second off--as for your pro who says you can't diagnose the fuel pump with trhe distributor dead--umm--you can---to test a fuel pump issue you actually have to disconnect the ignition!!!!!!!--crank the engine and test the fuel rail for the pressure---you can also disconnect the line that goes into the fuel filter to see the flow---------------------on another note---there was a time i worked at firestone-and the know it all about his own car customer dictated how i was going to do an alignemnt on his car---i test drove the car and it was way off--i put it on the rack and of course he is standing there---he then tells me that to align his car i need to c**k the steering wheel slightly to the right----whenever i do alignments the steering wheel is straight with the steering wheel lock in place--he had a problem with the way i was doing it and insisted i turn the wheel slightly to the right--to shut him up i did--i did the alignment the way he the knows it all customer wanted me to do it--i test drove the car and it was off even more than before---so i brought it back in to do it my way and fix it--he then complained that i did it wrong(i was thinking to myself no s**t!)--so once again--he is telling me to c**k the wheel further---finally i had to say--look--i am doing this s**t my way, if you don't like it then to f**king bad and leave me alone--of course like an a*****e he still stood there and had to watch--sometimes i think these people are gay and like to stare at me and feel i am in a gay nudy bar except i don't strip and they don't tip for stariing at me--maybe they don't tip for staring cause i don't take my clothes off??!?!--------in any case--after i did it my way the car was fine--so here is the point and moral of the story cause your story reminded me of this one---leave it to the expert to figure it out--like anyone else people make mistakes from time to time---but the customer who knows it all especially about cars doesn't know anything---they guy who does it every day has a better chance than you---this is the mechanics point of view!!!!!!!!!--it is time people have respect for one anothers position in life/job/work wise--PEOPLE LACK RESPECT---unfortantly i was given a gift to see all the evilness in people--and i see there lack of respect towards one another and it angers me--god hates me--and when i die and talk to that mother f**ker--i'm gonna ask him/her what the f**k is wrong with you to send me to this f**king place with these stupid creatures called people who are the most self centered-then i'm going to tell him/her there an a*****e and b***h smack that mother f**ker for all this crap i endure---it is the extra nice poeple that flip out and kill people---one day--you will all die and be extinct--then knowing my luck there is another stupid race of creatures out there somewhere----ahh the luck and gift of seeing things
