The California Medical Board investigated this patient's complaint and found it to be without merit. I do appreciate the frustration behind the high costs of medication, whether prescribed by a specialist like myself or by a general practitioner. My medical training has taught me to identify the risks of buying medication over the internet, without the unbroken chain of quality tracking provided by licensed pharmaceutical manufacturers. My postgraduate training in metabolic, hormonal and anti-aging protocols allows me to work with my patients to achieve their health goals SAFELY. More importantly, there are risks associated with hormone therapy. I diligently monitor my patients with targeted laboratory tests to keep a proper metabolic balance. Consumers who self-prescribe hormones or hormonal precursors risk heart attack, stroke, fluid retention, athralgias, high blood pressure, insulin resistance, heart palpitations, diabetes, liver disease, blood disorders, negative changes in body composition and other serious complications if the hormonal balance is not carefully monitored. If you consider hormone therapy of any kind, approach it with the guidance of a licensed doctor, preferably a trained specialist, who can guide you to get the anti-aging benefits without the risks of over-medicating. Many of my patients require fine-tuning dosages after monitoring. Hormonal therapy as done at our practice is hard science and not everyone is a candidate. (It's not a casual activity like taking vitamins, or like buying a new blender on-line). Dr. Ann Peters, M.D
