Complaint Review: Manrique Custom Vision - San Antonio Texas

At my consultation I was told that Manrique was the best. Only 1 mistake in 27000 procedures. I was impressed at first. My experience is similar to the previous author on this Ripoff Report.  On the day of surgery, I was rushed through preperation and given a few minutes for the valium to take affect. I finally get to meet the surgeon about 5 minutes before the surgery. I enter the room and they operate like a pit crew. While i was attempting to get situated on the table, my head wasn't in the correct position on the head rest and the laser was already postioned over my eye. Instead of seating me properly on the table, Manrique puts me in a rare naked chokehold and strecthes my head away from my body to get it centered in the middle of his Excimer laser. I was trying to inch my way up to a comfortable postion but scared to move while this laser was suctioned to my eyeball. And the answer is yes, it happens that fast. I will not disclose on this forum what happens throughout the remainder of the surgery because it is sensative information for a later date. When I asked about the severe burning in my eyes, they say its alergies. I don't understand how after all these years I suddenly have eye allergies. The way it works is, Manrique never meets his patients until its time for the surgery. Even 8 months after the botched surgery, he still refused to actually look at my eyes. He came in my exam room for a pep talk about four months after the procedure and his poor office director, Richard was trying to get him to examine my eyes but, Manrique didn't pursue an actual exam. He simply patted me on the knee and told me to sit closer to my computer monitor so I could see what I was doing at work. All they care about is how many of these they can do in a day. They assign you a nurse to follow up with and even if there are problems, Dr. Manrique himself never actaullly sees you again unless you agree to another surgery. I actually scheduled a follow up enhancemnet just to try to get him to examine my eyes but, it didnt work. On the alleged day of the exam, he didn't take the time to come and meet with me or look at my eyes. On the enhancement visit, they have you sign a different disclaimer from the first visit. It clearly states in the paper work that they are not responsible for any blindness and there are greater risk once you enter the enhancment stages. Its hard to forget about something like this when your vision is worse than it was before you had the surgery and your eyes burn everyday from sun up until sun down. What I got for my 4,000.00 is, problems with quality of vision, including blur, glare, halos, diminished night vision, and loss of peripheral vision . I tried to set up an apt with another ophthalmologist so I could get a second opinion. They would not see me because after multiple request, MCV will not release me as a patient. Each time I've asked to be released they tell me to come in and they'll get me taken care of.  If your a big shot like all of the pictures of tv personal and sports professionals covered on the walls of his office with thier endorsments and a big thumbs up, you will probably get the treatment worthy for this sensative procedure. But, if you're an average joe with no mega phone to voice your experience to the public, you will not get any custom work done at Manrique Custom Vision. I'm thankful for Ripoff Report.com becuase it is one of the only forums for a patient to try and explain the frustration associated with this entire debacle.
