An FYI for anyone believing in the MarketPlace AKA Obama Care!!!

My husband, 3 dependent grandchildren and I moved from Northern Maine to North Carolina due to a profound illness I suffer from requiring warm climate.  Having worked for 25 years in healthcare for hospitals and physicans in billing and claims processing, I feel lucky to have insurance knowledge these days will all of the changes.

At 60 years old and just deemed disabled I found myself having to apply for MarketPlace insruance after first applying for Medicaid and being denied.  Our 3 grandchildren were granted coverage through Medicaid however we were referred to the MarketPlace.  After a long application and providing full income verification we were sent a letter stating we were eligible for a reduced preumim with United HealthCare of North Carolina.  Then about 2 months later our income changed when my spouse found employment, we updated our information as required .

Now here we are at tax time,  upon completing our tax return what a huge shock, our $8,000.00 return turned instantly to you owe the IRS 1,300.00 .  We have to pay back the health care tax credit of over $9,000.00 because when we moved my husband withdrew a 401K he had paid into for 20 years through employment for relocation.  Not only did we get to pay the IRS $20,000.00 in taxes, that I understand and luckily for us we avoided an additional $8,000.00 ;penalty because of our circumstances but now we are hit with a huge $9,000.00 healthcare bill.  We were mislead into believing this to be a good thing and were denied the opportunity to shop for other insurances because we were given false information by our government sponsered health insurance and led to believe they were saving us so much money!

When I called to discuss my discontent I was on hold the first time for 27 minutes, then when someone answered we were cut off.  The second call I held for 35 minutes.  When I explained the above compliant and then asked why when applying for Medicaid, being a Federal/State paid program their guidelines were only asking for 3 months of income verification and this is asked upfront, however the MarkePlace also a Federal Program working hand in hand with the Medicaid program takes your application and wage verification they never imply at the end of the year they can go back as many months and retract all preimums as welll as penitilies without prior disclosure or even requesting it at the time of application.  My response was, "I don't know, can you hold....holding I did for an additional hour and a half, still no answers, nobody knew. I explained I needed an answer this was a $9,000.00 question.  Finally I was asked to speak with a Superviosr, guess again, holding another 10 minutes then finally a person that cuts me off. We were honest and forthcoming with all required information when asked for, and taken advantage of for it.

I don't think anyone is at home at the MarketPlace with any answers and soon if we are all lucky  it will go away, we are now dealing with the dishonest government that should never have pretended to know healtinsurance when they obivously don't .  This looks like doble dipping, first they Tax the retirment for 20K then penalize your healthcare 9K.  My husband makes  $12.50 an hour I live off of disability of $1,180.00 a month and support a family of 5. So ask youself is this oood for the everyday American?  I don't think so!

Today I followed up with ther IRS and Marketplace.  The results were.  The Marketplace told me the IRS had it wrong, surley they had made an error because their assistance for obtaining health coverage through the use of tax credits did not dictate the end result and the IRS must have made a mistake.

When IRS was contaced I was transfered 4 times, the last representvie was Rose ID# (((REDACTED))) in "Tax Law-Affordable Care Act."  After explaining the whole episode and how I felt we were lied to and cheated, Rose agreed but then said the IRS just follows the laws and the Congress dropped the ball and did not fully explore possiblities when these laws were set.  She agreed this was not right but could not offer an remedy.  So when asked then even though all of the bad events happened I was left no other choice but to bite the bullet, she said yes.  Then I asked well how about if I fixed the numbers on my return to make it right, then she said you would be at fault and would have to pay penalities, I knew this to be true just wanted to poise the question, it is alright for the government to cheat and lie to the public and we are expected to just take it however if the tables are turned we suffer severe consequenses.
