I visited a massage envy address 4423 S Meridian Suite A721 Puyallup, WA 98373 (253) 841-0808 for my very first massage experience,  when the massage was done I came out front to pay for the service using a gift card I got as a gift. The girl was telling me about their membership’s as I was paying for my service it and I had no idea this place even had memberships,. After listening to what sounded like an ok deal I asked several time about what happens when I want to cancel my membership. She told me '' you can cancel your membership at any time, as long as I submit a 30 day notice to them in writing''. She continued to pressure me into buying one and I continued to make sure I was able to cancel at any time and that NO contract was involved. I do not good with being on the spot and pressured so I opted to go ahead and purchase a membership. I thought ok what could it hurt, since I can cancel after a month or two if I don’t like it! As I was walking out the door I remember thinking to myself its ok that I just bought a membership because I can always cancel when I want. I was trying to justify what I was just pressured into buying. Well I went in with my notice to cancel and was told I signed a 12 month contract! I told them what? I never signed a contract? Never once was I informed about ANY contract. I was told I can not cancel for 12 months, now I'm stuck paying another 8 months at a place I was just scammed by. I got screwed over by the Puyallup clinic and am not comfortable even using my massages now. I do not want to continue supporting a business who gets money in this kind of manner...... Anyways today I was contact by a rude lady from the Puyallup clinic this is what happened......I received a phone call from the Puyallup WA clinic (where I get my massages). The lady began by asking why I went to social media to displayed such negative information about them, I posted the information above. I told her what exactly happened and she told me that "since I took to negativity and displayed it on social media that she can not help me anymore" referring to helping me out of my contract. I stated why on your website it states in the fine print that there are 3, 6, and 12 month memberships but I was not offered any to choose from? I was told mine was a month to month contract several time, and that I could cancel my membership at any time with a proper 30 day notice. She replied with” because I never stated to them that I wanted a lower membership contract!”, HUH?? I said well that's because I was never under the impression I was under a contract. She began telling me how "great" their customer satisfaction is and that I can continue to post what I want. Overall rude. I said yea I can tell you have great customer service in a sarcastic tone because of how they are treating me. After dealing with her rudeness/smartass tone I asked her since she's the manager who can I talk to that's above her? She said the owner.. I said Ok can I get their number? She said actually he's here now.. I said Ok can I talk to him? She said NO, he requested not to deal with customer complaints and that she already informed him what happened, I said ok well I will I would like to inform him also she still refused. I said ok and I will continue to post on social media about this issue because people need to beware. She replied with well every time you post a complaint it goes to me and I will just continue to contact you. I said ok sounds good. We hung up!

This is unacceptable business behavior, this clinic can not tell their customers that they are buying one thing and they sign them up for something else. Contract or no contract, the paper I received I was not told it was a contract I was told it was for practice purposes like if I receive a massage I will not hold them accountable if something happens, etc. and when my payment would come each month. Either way its their job to inform me of what I am signing and if it was something I was concerned with I would have fully read page by page, but she told me it was no big deal and that its just standard practices. In Washington there are laws against this type of business its referred to bait and switch which I am sure you are well aware of.

The same thing happened to me when I went to the Puyallup Massage Envy. I was asked to join the membership program & told that it is a month to month & if I needed to cancel for any reason to give them a 30 day notice in writing & it would be cancelled.

I had some hard financial times over the winter & called the Puyallup Massage Envy, saying that I wanted to cancel & was told that I would need to come down to fill out the cancellation paperwork. After I got there, they told me that I had actually signed a contract not for 12 months, but for 12 massages. If I wanted to cancel, I had to pay the full price of however many massages I had not used, at the full price (I believe it was 8 I had left), which was just shy of $500.

Of course, now that I think about it, I should have read the contract from the beginning but the fact that I was told something different, gave me enough reassurance to not feel the need to read it. I ended up paying the money to cancel but I do agree that they need some better management & probably some better training. (Although I didn't know you needed to be trained not to lie!) Good luck to you & my advice in the future is always read through every contract you come across, no matter who it is.
