On September 29 I placed an order for a hair straightening hairbrush from a vendor called "Michael Carr". They were pricey so I ordered one on the advertised half price special. This still had a price tag of 60 pounds but I decided to treat myself. I never received confirmation from the vendor, only PayPal. I noticed that day the PayPal receipt said I had ordered two at the half price special. I immediately contacted PayPal to see if I could get the vendor information to either adjust the order or return upon receipt. Other than the general name Michael Carr I had an email address that included no vendor information, looked like a scam generated email.
I spent several days emailing this individual and after no response I filed a report with PayPal as my total bill was now nearly 200 USD and I only needed one hair brush. I received their standard response that they would review it over 7 days and get back to me. A few days later I got an email that PayPal had closed the report - I then received an email from someone named Stephen with Raymond Carr who said that their record said I ordered two and it was my fault so I could return it to the address on the package I received. I know I only ordered one and neither this person nor PayPal presented anything different but I felt that if I could return one I would be fine.
I finally received the package (from China) and the only address on their other than mine was the Singapore shipping company. I notified this Stephen person as well as PayPal and neither have gotten back to me in over a week. I even sent pictures of the label asking about this shipping company. No invoice or paperwork was included in the package. I have been a good and loyal customer to PayPal and it is quite apparent this vendor is at the least operating a shady company.
I am disappointed that PayPal has refused to protect a customer and will not even give a shipping address for this vendor. All I want to do is return the one unopened hair item (I use the one I ordered and received) but PayPal has not contacted me at all. I guess in the PayPal world once they have received their money they are no longer concerned. Luckily customers have access to Amazon and EBay where as a consumer you are offered some protection (not that I've needed it with either company) and I would encourage anyone who wants some measure of protection to use alternate methods.
