I always loved Motel 6; good prices, clean accommodations and friendly staff. It's my Go-to place whenever possible. But on my last trip to Motel 6, my love soured. To understand this, we have to look at my next to last stay at Motel 6 - LAX, that's very close to Los Angeles International Airport.

During this stay, I had a minor issue with housekeeping and I took it up with the manager before I left. I didn't put it on YELP or Trip Advisor. I thought it was resolved.

A few weeks later, I made another reservation at Motel 6 -LAX and received a confirmation saying they were looking forward to seeing me.

I arrived as scheduled with a friend, but when I went to check in, I was told "the system" wouldn't accept my reservation. Was my credit card over-limit? No. So what was the problem?

I was told I was on the the Motel 6
D.N.R. list. That stands for "Do Not Rent." WTF!

Motel 6 never told me this, even though it had my phone number & email address.

I asked "Why?", but wasn't given any reason, only the computer knew, and it wasn't telling. I asked for the manager, but she wasn't there. I was told she would be there in an hour, so I gave my cell number and was told she would call me. We went out to eat and shop. After several hours and no call, we went back. No manager, no explanation and no room.

I was not a happy camper since despite the confirmed reservation, myself and my friend were left out in the cold. I asked to see whoever the manager was and was told there was no manager there.

My conversation with the desk clerk "Angelica"  was not positive; no raised voices or vulgarity though. There were other guests there who heard/saw this. By now, I figured I better document this and I took a picture of Angelica.  She went ballistic. She said taking her picture was illegal and she said to wait, she was going to call the police.
WTF again. She went to the phone and made a call. Another employee. "Ernie", came over and tried to make-nice. He was friendly and professional but still no room.

Not wanting to be a fugitive from justice, I waited, two-hours. At 8 p.m. Two uniformed Torrance Police officers showed up and I was asked by one of the officer, to step outside and explain the problem. Of course, I did this.

Bottom line: I was told that since I was not a guest, I had to leave. Who am I to argue with a 6'+ man with a badge and gun?

We found a room at another hotel, but at 2X the price.

EPILOGUE:

A week later, , I went online to book a room at the same  Motel 6-LAX. My reservation went through and I received a confirmation. Go figure.

I'll let the higher-powers figure it out. It will be interesting to see if Motel 6-LAX is still looking forward to seeing me.
