Move Now Moving Systems ripoff stolen refrigerator undelivered merchandise failure to deliver damaged goods Los Angeles California
Date of Loss: 7/24/06
Type of Loss: Damage to Refrigerator in Transit
Location of Loss: Enroute from 5455 Sylmar Ave, Sherman Oaks, CA 91401 to 10645 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90024.
Description of Loss:
Move Now Moving Systems agreed to pick up my Maytag Plus refrigerator at a SF Valley location and transport it to a condo located in the Wilshire corridor. Mike, who made the arrangement, arrived with a driver in a rental pickup. They loaded the refrigerator in the truck. This was a top mount refrigerator with 2 doors. They did not secure the freezer door. In transit, the door broke off and was damaged along with accessories inside the freezer box. I was waiting at the delivery site when they arrived. Mike showed me what happened and said he was taking it to an appliance shop to have a new door installed. He promised to deliver the refrigerator on 7/25 in the afternoon.
The refrigerator was not delivered as promised, and to this date (9/10)has still not been delivered. Repeated calls to his cell phone were not returned. I called the office number I was given and was referred to a different number. Nobody answered at the new number. I sent emails to the office and these were not responded to until 7/29.
In my email of 7/27, I indicated that I would have to buy another refrigerator unless I heard from Mike by 4:30. I received no messages from anyone. So at 5 p.m. on 7/27 I purchased a new refrigerator from Best Buy and paid for its delivery. I had to do this or lose a new tenant that I had promised a refrigerator as a condition of leasing the unit. This condo rents for $2,150 a month.
I paid $220 to a private party for the used Maytag refrigerator which was in perfect condition. I paid $471.34 to Best Buy for a new Frigidaire, including a $60 delivery charge. Mike had told me on 7/24 that if he couldn't deliver the refrigerator with a new door, he would reimburse me for what I had paid for it, and said he would move another refrigerator into the unit at no cost to me.
What I requested in my letter to their claims department was a check for $220, the amount I paid for the damaged refrigerator.
Since repeated efforts to contact the company have been ignored, I have taken the following actions: (1) filed a complaint with the Los Angeles BBB - the BBB was unsuccessful in reaching the company and has closed the file; (2) filed a complaint with the California Public Utilities Commission - which says they have not located the company; (3) filed a notice with MovingScam.com, (4)filed a history of the problem with the legal forum at los angeles.craigslist.com, and (4) now this report.
I would be interested in the following: (1) a reply from anyone who has had a bad experience with this company, (2) a reply from anyone who knows where this company's office or headquarters is located, and (3) advice about what else I might do to resolve this matter. I have not yet filed a stolen property report with the LA Police Department, because I wanted to wait to see if this company would resolve my complaint or return my refrigerator. Since they have done neither, I believe it is appropriate to consider this a stolen refrigerator and file a stolen property report. However, I would be surprised if the police will do more than take the report and file it.
