Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I ordered new cabinets for my home before Xmas 2013 by didnt finalize the details in time to order for the break so they were ordered immediately after New Years 2014. I was told 4-6 weeks.

Started removing kitchen cabinets and countertops to prepare for new kitchen right away but left enough to live.

After seven weeks started to harass Clement (owner) by phone and visisting shop. Cabinets were completed sometime during 3rd week of Feb except for drawers which were contracted out. Visited shop Feb 27th and agreed cabinetes could be install without drawers and arranged for delivery the following day and possibly install as well. Clement called at end of day to say that drawers had not been started and contractor did not want to do them if I would take Melamine drawers instead. He knew no one with equipment to do it. The first guy I called said he would be able to make them for us within 2 weeks.

Had been living with only a sink, dishwasher and stove until this point. Removed plumbing drain from sink about a week ago to work on that as we are moving sink, so using pails. Morning of the 28th I removed all remaining stuff from kitchen for delivery and installation. We have two young children so need a kitchen.

Waited all day for delivery. Got call late afternoon that delivery wouldnt be until early next morning. Installer called that night to arrange install next day as well.

Cabinets came first thing in the morning. Waited for installer all day and could not reach installer or Clement by phone all day. Also could not reach either by phone all next day. Installer called in evening to arrange install next morning (Monday).

Got call about 1pm from installer about his car trouble and he would try to get there later that day. Clement called in late afternoon to see if installer made it. Could not contact him all day. He was expecting me to organize his contracted installer, just like the drawers. No calls from the installer in afternoon.

Next day (today) had trouble contacting anyone (SURPRIZE!). Started calling around to find my own installer. Clement called around noon. Told him to come get his cabinets and bring my deposit. Filed a complaint with the BBB.

As I am writing this Clement has called with a new installer on their way here. Old installer is promising to come tomorrow which I told him I will not be able to be here. My cousin, whom I called as he is a floor layer, has a guy that is going to call. AND! The awesome lady at my countertop installer has hooked me up with an installer that is going to be calling.

Keep in mind that I have also put a deposit on granite countertops and have put them off numerous times so have wasted some of their time as well.

We have two young kids so a kitchen is a necessity. Yesterday we washed all of our dishes, and there were alot, with pails. When is the last time you did that at home. No stove.

This has been a nightmare. I understand that stuff happens but the lack of communicatioin and the broken promises just are not worth the trouble. I wouldnt hire this guy to empty my septic tank now.

Installation Update

I know it has been quite some time since I first reported this but I did all emails in my inbox to remind me that it was not over until I was satisfied.

The cabinets were installed by the new installer. He needed to return a few times over the next week or so which again was inconvenient. It was quite apparent that he was not experienced in cabinet installation and probably could have used a helper at the very least.

There was a design flaw where a divider between the dishwasher and fridge which extended from floor to ceiling came out too far so that the crown molding extended past the wall on the other side of the fridge which looks incorrect.

There is a corner upper cabinet. One side of it has a spacer between it and the cabinet next to it but the other side does not. Because this is the closing side of the door it rubs on the door of the cabinet next to it and does not close all of the time and is rubbing off the stain on the door.

One of the upper cabinet doors had cracked and was suppose to be replaced but that never happened.

While installing handles, a hole was drilled improperly in one of the doors so it should have been replaced but never was.

ALL of the tracks were installed improperly at the NKD shop and had to be repositioned by the installer. They were not all done correctly so now the drawers dont all close properly and some of the tracks continue to disconnect from the drawers. I have manged to adjust some of them to get them working myself. I believe that I have figured out exactly what the problem is now and will readjust them as necessary until they all work as intended.

Installing the crown molding above the corner cabinet was very tricky. I completely understand because I have done all of the baseboard and casing installation in my entire house. The angles were not cut correctly and had to be filled, which is fine as long as the space is not 3/8 of an inch like this is. One side of the molding is keeps falling off and will need to be replaced. I would like to get a finishing carpenter in to do it as I only have one piece of spare moulding to use.

The biggest disappointment of all is the quality of the cabinets themselves. They are dark brown in color. The stain is very thin and there is obviously not enough clear coat on them. Some of the crevices in the doors due to the contour do not even have stain in them. The stain chips off very easily so inplaces like in front of the sink look older than the cabinets that I replaced.

Looking back I would be willing to pay twice as much as we did to have some good quality cabinets installed properly. It is a huge investment so it should not be cheaped out on. We should have saved some money on our absolutely beautiful countertops and spent it on the cabinets.

NKD refuses to come out to complete the deficiencies. I have not paid them for the installation yet and apparently they are not concerned about collecting it either. They have washed there hands clean from this poor and incomplete project.

I am happy to report that with a little bit of motivation via the internet my cabinets have been installed except for a few deficiencies and my drawers.

The original installer showed up that next day to install the cabinets after getting in touch with Clement the night before. I had my uncle, whom I had come over because I had to go to work, send him away. I called Clement and told him I would like to have the new guy complete the installation because the original guy obviously was not dependable and I did not want him to install my cabinets.

I will keep everyone posted on the final stages of this project over the next couple of days.
