Misleading Company

The response from Shelley- well, either she is on vacation or doesn't work there anymore. I was lead to believe that it was a Management Training Program. It is just door to door sales. Everyone in the office is young & attractive. I think I am the oldest at 31, but feel like me being Asian was also a plus in getting the "job." It is like a Fat Camp. They try to hype you up and make you feel good. I think the training is good for an ENTRY level person that wants SALES training. They STRESS this is not a SALES CAREER, but I beg to differ. It is DOOR TO DOOR SALES! I am not going back there tomorrow. One of the "trainers" I was with mislead a customer and it made me feel very uncomfortable. The customer, if they were to sign up, would been at a higher interest rate! But the trainer said the customer would save money because of the monthly statement fee. It was very misleading! It would have probably cost the customer more money! The training is 4-days unpaid, but they do raise your commission for the 4-days after training when you are on your own. But one girl told me she hadn't made a sale in 2-weeks! I guess it is how agressive you are. They have you try to get a business card and start signing the person up before they can object. Some of it made me feel uneasy. Other times, there were a true savings for the customer. I think you should only take this job if you want to be a SALES PERSON. The list that showed the Top 25 highest earnings for a week for ALL of CYDCOR was about $2000 for #1 and $900 for the 25th. So only $900 for the 25th sales person in ALL of the company. Not too good to me. Most people made about $100 per day. So take from this what you want. Tampa, FL

I have been with Niko-Laos for a few months now, and I think everyone has commented on the company has been severly misled. I make more money now than any other job out there offers. The experience and management team are outstanding, and have taught me so much on management, campaign management, and business skills to survive anywhere. I am 23 years old and I make more than most 40yr olds I know. This company offers amazing growth, and opportunity for those want it. If you can't handle management, and rapid growth then that's why you probably wrote a comment on here, because you couldn't handle it. Only the strong will survive, the weak keep job hunting for months to come. Enjoy your unemployment, I'll probably be retired by the time your settled.

I had the same experience. Just before leaving to the interview I did some quick research on the company and found nothing but negative posts online. I am thankful for this, but thought I would give it a try anyway. The first two interviews went just as the posts on this site said. Finally, I realized the position I was applying for was going in the same direction as those who posted on this site earlier this year. The job ad on careerbuilder and monster claim they have openings for multiple postions. For example, Promotions, Marketing, Field Sales, and Management Training. Don't be fooled, It's all for the same thing. Very vague information given and working for free with no gaurantee. Not what I busted my butt in college for. If they call you for an interview, refer them to this website.

Yes, what a bad idea! my doubts have been answered by checking responses of the company

I faxed my resume to Niko Loas and the reply was within 30 minutes. The company was listed on the monster.com under restaurant management. I was urgent that I attended a first time interview within 2 hours of receiveing my fax. I attended the first only to receive a second. On 3/16/04 I'm to attend my second interview on a 9 to 5 field trip. I will not attend for the mere reason that my doubts have been answered by checking responses of the company. This is nothing that I did not have a gut feeling about but, that was reinforced by a little research. Thank God for research. I saved a lot of my valuable time as well as a lot of free labor.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly....(of Niko-Laos)

I came across your website and the "Rip-Off Report" by the individual who had the misfortune of a poor experience with Niko-Laos / Cydcor. I have these brief comments regarding the company. I have had experience in dealing with Niko-Laos as well, although I have taken a different perspective. I took my brief experience (unofficial employee status) and evaluated the experience in a broader view. "The Good" included a rigorous training program for sales and marketing employees. It could have been considered a Boot Camp for all graduates of high school or bachelors degrees. I actually benefitted from that component while I was between jobs. Also, the upper management, though they had some attributes that I will address in "The Bad" and "The Ugly," did a very good job of coaching their future and existing employees in the direction of the company. "The Bad" included the deception of the position anyone is applying for at that time. This is where I believe the person complaining was accurate in their assessment of the company and management. Their advertisements for positions are vague and on the verge of deceitful. They offer information on a small aspect of their business objectives and some of the information is regarding previous business ventures by Cydcor as a whole and not the particular branch, or Niko-Laos is this instance. "The Ugly" included the misuse of potential employees for an open-ended evaluation period. I was instructed, after passing the 2 interviews, to begin reporting to "work" at 7am and follow a team of existing sales staff on sales calls and learn the business. The work day usually lasted between 8-10 hours. It was apparent that one had to endure this training for 1-3 weeks and finally begin your salary/commission position after the magagement and your team leader approved of your experience. This, in my opinion, amounted to no less than slave labor for the benefit of the company. Some might say it is shrewd business practices, but it certainly should be questioned by someone with authority. Basically, you could say I was an observer/volunteer for the 2.5 weeks I was with Niko-Laos. They were not out any money and I only invested my time as an evaluation period for that position. It was painful, financially, for those couple of weeks, but well worth the opportunity to evaluate the company and where I wanted to land in my next positon/career. In summary, I think it is poor business habits by the company Niko-Laos, and the parent company, Cydcor, and I recognized that I did not want to be a part of this company. I did take the valuable "training" and reapplied to my endeavors. To that I am thankful.
