Sales person Robert Derthick working for Merchant Services and representing northern leasing came in my store to solicit my bisness for credit card processing. I told him to save his breath I wasn't going to take visa because they always wanted me to pay a lot of money to get hooked up, or pay 45.00 dollars a month to rent as you buy the capture machine.

I told him I had turned away many many sales people just like him for thosse reasons. He told me it would only cost me 9.95 a month for the machine and the bank would only take 1.69% on each charge.

To make a long story short, when I started to get monthly statements from my bank I realized the merchant service co. was taking a 20.00 dollar minimum plus the 1.69%. They were also taking 80.00 dollars the 2nd month for who knows what. They took 170.00 dollars the 2nd month and I only charged about 450.00 total for the month.

The bank statements also showed me that Northern Leasing was taking 35.69 every month instead of the 9.95 that Mr Derthick told me it would cost.

Now Northern Leasing says I signed a 4 year lease. I never saw a copy of the lease until they mailed me a copy. I was shocked to see my signature on a 4 year lease. I'm 61 yrs old getting ready to retire. My store lease is only a year at a time basis because of that. Never would I have signed a 4 year lease.

Northern Leasing says it's between me and them that Mr Derthick is just an independent saleman with no connection to their company. They are threatning me with legal action. They say I owe them 1,400.00 for their 300.00 machine. We had a Discover machine before we met Mr. Derthick that did not cost us a penny. Derthick told me the machine would take discover too, but failed to tell me I had to apply with a letter to merchant services and that it would take me a couple of months to get it connected. Looks like merchant services is as much at fault as Nortern Leasing.

Dear Sir: In response to your rip off report... You need to sue the pants off that representative!!! I work for a similar company to MSI in PGH, PA. If you did not sign the lease, then he did. I use Northern for my leasing too. I have NEVER had a problem, because I am an upright business person. The $9.95 that he mentioned was probably a statement fee. Although you should have read your application for a merchant account, I say to you.. SUE ROBERT!!! HE is the ONLY ONE TO BE BLAMED!!!!!!! thanks
