On November 09, 2018, One Shot Movers provided me an estimate with total of $3,395.04 they required 70% payment upfront. On 12 November 2018, the movers came with the actual amount of $5,870.00. The moving foreman said to call the office and speak with the manager since he has no authority to make changes, I do not agree with this price. They low bid this estimate and they increased the price on-site. The total they wanted me to pay upfront is $4,118.90 which they required 70% payment and since I did not have enough money upfront they called and called until I paid them 70%.

I do not agree with this price of luring customer in with low prices and increasing it on-site. In addition to this, last week on 19 November 2018, I have requested for a status on my home good to be delivered they tell me they will call me back and then they never call. When I try to call them back later they do not answer. On 21 November 2018, I call back and they do not answer. I continue to call and finally they tell me they will call me back to let me know the status. In addition to increased pricing, they are a disorganized company that does not know the status of my high priced shipment of my household goods.

On 26 November 2018, They are still at lost with my household good shipment and again they said they will call me back. This time I complained about the pricing and he says all customers will have an increase in price on-site and there is nothing he can do about it. Tim from One Shot Movers has no information of my household goods and they charged a high price. This company never return calls it is difficult to get in communications with them, lousy customer service. They should not be in business.

It IS Your Fault

I am not speaking as an employee of the company - since I am not an employee.  It must simply be easier for you to think of me as an employee - it allows you to rationalize the fact this is all your own fault for the predicament you're in.

I suggest if you really want your stuff, then call the company everyday until you do.  I am a consumer - just like you; I can't get your stuff for you.  However, as I already said, you're probably not going to be happy when you do get your stuff because I suspect there is going to be a lot of damage to your stuff.  It's just a prediction.  If your items were that priceless, then you would have selected a legit mover local to you instead of someone online company located in FL.

Take some responsibility for the fact you did ZERO due diligence on this mover, the moving industry, and what to expect when you have to move across state lines, because clearly you didn't do any research, nor did you take any responsibility for your immense failure.  Had you done any research at all, you would have read what you should have done - which is at the bottom of my comment entitled "Moral of the Story".

If you want to know how companies like this exist - it's because of consumers who do zero research before a move to understand interstate moving. The environment exists because the laws are set to protect movers like this. They attract you with a cheap price online, which is not binding on them, and then raise the price when the mover actually shows up and sees the items needing to be moved. You chose to go with these movers and consumers who continue to choose movers like this keep movers like this in business.

I have proven my point about the unprofessionalism of this company. The funniest thing is the pick out points to pick on twist it to make the consumer look like an idiot in fact they lost the point why the consumer is complaining about the price.

Then the customer calls to check on the status of their shipment and the company rarely answers the phone and when they do they have no status. Yeah that price is outrageous to pay for a shipment that the company has no idea when their shipment will be delivered.

Either way, I have proved my point of how unprofessional this company. Congratulations on your embarrassment. Take care.

On November 09, 2018, One Shot Movers provided me an estimate with total of $3,395.04 they required 70% payment upfront. On 12 November 2018, the movers came with the actual amount of $5,870.00.  I suppose you should consider yourself very fortunate.  No mover, and I mean no legitimate mover would take your move on 3 days notice - they would tell you too bad - go rent a U-Haul and do it yourself.  But you did this....

The price you were quoted was an estimate - it was not binding on you or the mover.  The real determination of pricing happens when the mover actually comes to the site and sees what you have to move.  Legitimate movers show up weeks before to survey what needs to be moved, and then provides you a quote in pounds - not cubic feet.  That quote becomes binding and cannot increase - generally - by more than 10%.  Since the mover never saw your items prior to the move, the estimate is just that - an estimate.  If pricing increases - and it does - then you are on the hook for the full amount.  Was the price reasonable?  I couldn't tell you because (a) you don't indicate where you moved to or from, and (b) you don't indicate how much stuff you need moved.

I do not agree with this price of luring customer in with low prices and increasing it on-site.  Since the estimate means nothing, you were wrong to rely on the information provided for anything.

In addition to increased pricing, they are a disorganized company that does not know the status of my high priced shipment of my household goods.  See, this is where people like you become absolutely irrational and idiotic.  You claim that everything you own is high priced - yet you chose a mover based on price?  Really?  On top of that, the only place where you would have found a mover like this is online.  So in other words, you went online and trusted your prized possessions to someone you never met before.  If you had a child and one of them met a stranger online, would you allow your child to spend time with that stranger without your supervision?  Not a chance.  Yet you had no problem trusting your possessions to a stranger.  Your items are not high-priced - you certainly didn't consider them as such when you decided to go with this mover.

This time I complained about the pricing and he says all customers will have an increase in price on-site and there is nothing he can do about it.  True.  It is perfectly legal under Federal Law and there is nothing you or he can do about it.

Tim from One Shot Movers has no information of my household goods and they charged a high price.  How do you know it was a high price?  Did you go to a legitimate moving agent local to you like United, Bekins, Mayflower, Allied, North American, or a few others to see what the price to move you would have been.  I'll bet it would have been close to what you're going to pay.  Or did you compare cubic foot estimates from online movers only who were all going to low-ball you on the quote, and then raise the price when they show up?

Your disappointment hasn't really even begun yet.  I would expect a lot of damage at destination and you won't get much in claims reimbursement.  You chose a mover that will reimburse you at $0.60 per pound and there is nothing more you can recover from that.  Federal laws protect movers from lawsuits from consumers and limits consumers to recover what is in your contract only.

Moral of the story:  Moving is not an inexpensive venture.  Shopping online for a mover is the worst thing a consumer can do.  Find 3 movers local to you at your orgin point.  Have them each come out to see what needs to be moved and then select a mover based on who you trust the most.  If the move exceeds your budget, move yourself and find guys who will load the truck for you - and then find guys at your destination to unload for you.  You will work more and it can be more trouble for you, but it is cheaper.  Do NOT look online for a mover - but research interstate moving.
