Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I would like to warn against potential employees thinking about working for this company. Taking advantage of staging practices in return for free labor to get an event done that BH staff is incompetant to do.

Basically I went for an interview sometime back. I was told I would do a staging, a tasting and help with a banquet.  Like any potential hiree I was excited about the opportunity. I presented a few dishes, nothing top notch but it was presentable and judging from the reviews on YELP this place can use a new menu.

To get to the point,  I was told I would be called in for a 2nd interview.

I was told that I would meet with Beverage Director that I would receive a phone call. This was the farthest thing from the truth.  What they really wanted was for me to work for them for 12 hours for FREE  and by saying I would get a 2nd interview was the only way to get me to stay.

During my tasting interview I felt like the Executive Chef was trying to steal intellectual property.

It's one thing to ask about the inspiration behind a dish, it's another thing to ask about fundamentals on menu & pricing development.  If the Executive Chef doesn't know what he's doing he should be replaced.   The YELP reviews speak for themselves.  So I be damned if I let a chef bash my cooking when his ratings are low.  I cook things that sell.

I'll be honest I was pretty convinced I was going to get a 2nd interview. I started asking employees what life was like at the Peninsula and they all hated it. They were unhappy.  12 hour work days, NO appreciation for hard work.    Kind of felt like I was in jail.     IF this is how Executive Staff runs their 100 Million dollar hotel then I think it's time for some serious changes. Glass Door reviews don't help this place either.

The chef interviewed the wrong candidate, a write up should be in place along with making sure Human Resources is in direct communication with staff for PROPER hiring procedures.

"OH s*** we have a banquet for 200 people, we need more people. I have an idea.  I'll run an ad on Craigslist get a few cooks to create dishes. If I like it I'll put it on the menu, have them work 12 hours, and then promise them a 2nd interview."

Tha'ts going to end !!

If BH Peninsula wants to battle me in court I seriously wish you would. I would eat you for breakfast and spit you out and i'm not talking about the s****y eggs benedict thats on your menu at the Belvedere.
