The website offers a free trial for one week, but a credit card number is required to register. I cancelled my membership within an hour of registering, but I was still charged. When I disputed the charges, I was told the only way to get the free trial was to request a report and the charge was for the report. The claim is that PeopleSmart has to pay another service to produce the report. This is entirely misleading. I was careful to read everything and to avoid anything that was going to charge extra. The information I saw on the website was outdated and inaccurate.

Hi, you do not need to purchase a report to be able to sign up for a free trial membership. You can also join PeopleSmart by clicking "Join" on our homepage.

When purchasing a report, you have the option at checkout of also signing up for a seven-day free trial. Regardless of whether you continue with the membership after the week trial period, you will be charged for the report you purchased. 

Our reports vary in cost based on the cost associated with creating them. Some, like background reports, which include a lot of information from multiple sources, are more expensive than a basic contact report. As it sounds like our customer support team explained to you, a PeopleSmart membership includes unlimited access to certain information, while other reports carry an extra cost.
