My husband and I stayed in this establishment in, around Mid-July. We have stayed there quite a bit and I'm usually pleased with the service and people who work there.

I'm writing today because when I booked my reservation, I went by the prices posted on there web-site. I, like many other people do comparison shopping on-line to find the best deals. I booked the Pelican's Cove room of which the first page of their web site shows a price of $110.00, at the reservation window, the price shows $130.00. I booked the room for two nights and expected to pay a total of $260.00 with a 10% AARP discount.

Before arriving, I had called Portside Suites to be sure my reservation had been accepted and I was told it had been. I was also told at that time my room had been upgraded at no extra charge.

When my husband and I arrived I paid and was given a receipt, on the receipt was an extra amount of $32.08 that I questioned, the girl who checked me in, at the front desk assured me I would not be charged that extra $32.08. I thanked her and went on my way.

A couple of weeks after returning home, I was going thru my bank statement and found that Portside Suites had indeed charged me that extra amount of 32.08. I called their office to speak to the owner or manager and was told the manager would call me the next day to discuss it. That call never came. I called again about a week and a half later on a Friday. (My husband had been in and out of the hospital and I had been unable to make calls as in a timely manner as I would like). Again, I was told the manager or owner would call me the following Monday. Again, no call. I called again on Tuesday, Sept. 4Th and spoke to Cathy. I explained to her what was going on. She assured me the manager, "Hope" would call me the following day on Wednesday, Sept. 5th. I told her I had been told several times the manager or someone would call me and they never did and I'd like to speak to her then. Cathy told me the manager was in a meeting. I explained to Cathy if I didn't hear from someone the following day, I was going to report them for taking money from my account without my knowledge and permission.

Wednesday, Sept 5, 2007 came and went and again, no call. I called Portside Suites again on the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 5th and again spoke to Cathy who told me that the manager and owner or someone, checked the fees and found that I was not over-charged. I told Cathy that, never the less, that was their opinion and someone with authority should have called me so I could speak with them. I explained to her the amounts I agreed to pay and the amounts I was charged. Cathy told me (as did other people before her) that the prices listed on the web-site are old and are actually more than listed. I told Cathy that I should have been told that the prices were more when I called to confirm my reservation and at the very least when I arrived. Additionally, I told Cathy, it isn't my responsibility to pay an amount that is not listed. It is the responsibility of Portside Suites to keep their web-site updated with current prices or provide information to the effect that prices vary during the peak seasons and to call for current prices.

It is my opinion that to a degree, what Portside Suites is doing is known as "bait and switch" and that is illegal.

I feel that I have done all within my power to resolve this issue by contacting them and asking for the courtesy of a phone call from someone in authority. In not doing so, their establishment is being reported to my credit card company and I am filing a dispute.

It is my opinion that their practice of advertising one price and charging another is illegal and I will file charges with every agency I can that deals with such practices.

They have not only caused a problem by over charging me, they have also lost me as a loyal patron and someone who used to recommend their establishment to everyone I know.

Unfortunately, "Warriorwoman" had looked on line at our winter rates. She stayed at our suites during the peak summer season. I regret that I was personally unable to get in contact with this guest to explain her misinformation. I don't beleive our website is confusing. Please check it out for yourself. www.destinationbrookings.com I am truly sorry to have ever left this or any guest dissatisfied. I tried to contact her today 2/7/08 but her phone has been disconnected with no new listng. Sincerely, Hope Portside Suites Manager
