Progressive Van Lines should be stopped/shut down and the president should be fined or jailed. Our move began with National Moving Network's promise to deliver in 2-3 days with $1,000 deposit for a pick up from Maryland to Florida.
They promised constant contact as to our homegoods the whole way through the process. On July 30, Progressive Van Lines picks up our homegoods and drives off. We rush to Florida not wanting to miss the movers. Not only were they not to be located, nobody could tell me where they were. Day after day, then week after week, I called to see when delivery would be and they would give me an arbitrary day. That day came and went so I would call again, get a new day out their hat, that day came and went, and so on.
I contacted both DOT and BBB, sent in complaints and they kindly responded back. Having somebody to listen helped but, it didn't get our household goods to us.
On the 29th day of the original date, Progressive Van Lines arrived and collected their $2,400 cashier's check and demanded $70 in cash more for the stairs. I explained they were already aware of the stairs and it was included in the price. The driver walked away and got back in his truck without even opening the doors where our long-awaited belongings were. He told me that he was leaving if I didn't provide the $70 cash. I agreed to go to the bank while they unloaded. They opened the side middle door and began throwing our boxes and furniture on the ground. Two men carried the, what was good furniture when we left, up the stairs. They threw everything into the middle of the main room without asking at any point what should go where. As they piled things up, I found 85% of our belongings were either broken to no repair, stratched, whole bed frames gone, and stacked boxes so high they leaned to kill. I was so completely distraught and dismayed by this and if I said anything to them, they yelled about the $70 I stilled owed them (tip money). I called the local sheriff's office to witness this and he was just as surprised. He couldn't do anything about what was happening but, he did make a police report for future use in litigation.
Please, I beg of any person with the power to stop these companies. This is America and the consumer is paying the price. We trush the government to protect us from merchants with all of our local and Federal agencies. We need the help and to have the confidence that the regulations are in place and being instituted.
We should not have to be here complaining about something happening over and over again and with no recourse and with agencies to prevent, collect lost items and the emotional damage that goes along with being a victim. These people are criminals hiding behind a license to operate and they know it.
How could these companies be allowed to break, steal and hold-hostage anothers life earnings and get away with it over and over? People are jailed and/or fined for much much less, why can't these people be stopped in their tracks and those of us who encountered them be reimbursed for what they turned from good expensive, hard-earned house furnishings to plain and simple trash?
