I went to puppy doos in june 07 for the first time with my shih tzu.

When they called that my dog was ready i went and picked her up, and she looked BEAUTIFUL!!! so of course i returned there when she needed her next grooming in august. I requested to have the same groomer as last time, but was informed she no longer worked there, but was told the owner of the shop would groom my dog herself, i figured if she owned the place she must be a decent groomer so i trusted my dog in her hands. Again when they called i went and picked her up, I was in shock at how she looked, nothing like the first time. Her face was cut much too short and was very uneven. Her feet were trimmed so short they looked unbalanced to the body, needless to say i was very unhappy with the grooming. I will not be returning to puppy doos! I just wish i knew where that other groomer was now!

While searching the internet a family member brought this complaint to my attention. I would like to say that being a groomer for over 10 years, and owning my own business for 4 years, I take the utmost pride in my work Upon looking at the condition of a dog when brought in for grooming I do inform each and every one of my customers that the dog will have to be cut shorter than usual do to matting or knots that can not be brushed out. Sometimes during the inspection of their dog the small tight knots close to the skin are not noticed until we start grooming ( such as around the feet ) . Any dog that is released with a shorter cut is a result of excessive knotting, and I always make it a point to inform the customer if they are not happy with the length, that it was a result of excessive knots and will instruct the owner on the proper brushing technique and the proper tools to use (which should be done by the owner between grooming) so this will not happen again. If a customer cannot maintain their pets coat between grooming (since life can be so busy and there is not much time to bush their dog correctly) they are instructed that they can make an appointment to bring their pet in for just a bath and brush between haircuts. A dog such as a s**+-Tzu needs to be brushed and done correctly all over and not doing this within an 8 week period is sure to result in knots. I will not subject a dog to such excessive brushing tying to remove impossible knots just to keep their owner happy with the cut. This is much too painful for their pet. I will always do my best to make sure that the haircut is even and uniform, When they have to be cut shorter in some areas they are cut in a manner where their hair is blended so that they are in proportion. At times you will come across a dog that either has issues with cutting around their face, trimming around their feet or using the clippers, etc. They do become frightened and begin to jump or move around excessively out of fear. Although I want to keep each and every one of my customers happy, I will not jeopardize the safety of their pet. I treat each pet brought in as if it were my own. Continuing a grooming on a dog that is excessively frightened will most definitely result in causing them injury. It is very common to sometimes have a dog who normally is very calm on several visits and suddenly their next appointment they are fearful of the grooming process. This would have been the reason for the uneven hair on her dogs face and if she would have said something at the time of pick up I would have most definitely attempted to fix it in her presence. It's apparent that she did not. Jennifer Owner/Groomer Puppy Doo's & Kitty Cats Too Colonia, NJ 732-326-0002
