I sent my child here because of suicidality and depression.  When I called for information, Todd Hockenbury played on my fears, urging me to immediately enroll my child in the program.  He claimed that Red Rock would be able to help with anxiety and depression and possibly bipolar disorder of my child.  Before I received any of the "fine print" on the specifics of the program, my child was already there.  I received the parent handbook after almost a month (and several requests).  When I read it, I realized that this was not the type of facility that would best help my child.  We had already been through various changes in medication and one apparent major event because of the medications, which was played down by the staff at Red Rock.  Things just didn't feel right.  When I pulled my child out of the program, Todd Hockenbury was extremely unprofessional and argued with me, then hung up on me.  He called back and semi-apologized, but his behavior caused me to believe without a shred of doubt that my choice to remove my child was the right one.  Todd was concerned about whether or not I had sent my payment for the next month of service.  I said I had.  He assured me that we would work things out after he received the check (because I was unhappy, they might issue a refund).  Based on his actions to date, and the actions of Brian Pace, I knew not to trust them.  I put a stop payment on my check, which did not make him very happy.  When my child arrived home, I was told about some of the things that happened there and was appauled.  I filed complaints with various agencies and the better business bureau, trying to protect those kids.  Nothing helped, but I was told by one investigator in Utah that they were rewriting the law so that parents would be more fully informed about the facility BEFORE they send their child down (i.e. parent handbook is emailed before student is accepted).  All in all, it seemed that the admissions people make a commission and so their motivation is to "fill beds" and nothing more.  Todd Hockenbury's only solution to my problem was Red Rock.  When I removed my child, customer service was not a priority and our issues were never resolved.  It's all about the money and nothing about the child, despite what their website claims.  They are profit driven.  Do not send your child there.

Red Rock did not help my sister

#2General Comment

My sister went to Red Rock. Below are some things that occurred while she was there.

They continually refused to let my parents see her based on infractions like forgetting to pick up an item of clothing.

12-step programs were mandatory, even though they are religious and no more effective than simply quitting.

My sister has never been an addict. She drank some beer and smoked some pot, just like many teenagers who don't have problems.

The staff took kids to visit the Mormon temple. This was not pertinent to their treatment or schooling.

The football coach from the local college taught P.E. He would yell at girls who were having asthma attacks or vomiting from over-exertion.

They gave my sister medication that more qualified professionals later took her off of.

Her therapist suggested I was a pedophile because I owned pornography. She suggested that my sister must have been abused by my parents or me because otherwise ahe wouldn't have ended up there.

She dismissed the influence of fetal alcohol effects (not from our mother- my sister is adopted) and brain damage incurred when my sister fell on her head. More upsetting was the fact that she focused on my parents more than my sister's rape the previous year. My parents have never been remotely abusive.

When my parents tried to pull her out, they were bombarded with meetings and paperwork. They were not allowed to see my sister  during this time.

My grandparents spent thousands of dollars per month on Red Rock, and they continue to resent my sister.

Any ethical person will avoid sending a child to Red Rock.

The Truth To About Admissions At Red Rock Canyon School

Tue, October 29, 2013

The truth about the process of application of admission to Red Rock Canyon School.  The family contacts the program, Red Rock Canyon School, and discusses the proccess of the possible admission.  If the parent feels that the program representative such as Todd Hockenbury, the Admissions Director, they request an paper application.  The paper application is complete with the "contract" which discuss the stipulations of the contract including the costs, the term of the contract and any possible penalty for breach of contract and it is only because a program staffs for 30 day in advance so Red Rock Canyon School to effectively run the program.  The family is welcome to remove their child for the program, we just ask that if the family provides a 30 day notice they are welcome to pick their child up instantly but would be required to pay per contract for the next 30 days.

This is not a hard line item if Red Rock Canyon School Board of Directors feels that the parent warrents a refund or the contract to be broken then that is decided by the Board.  The parent completes the application and either mails, faxes or emails the application back to the admissions representative.  The admissions representative then reviews the material with the team which includes Clinical Director, Executive Director and Residential Director.  Once they all have approved the application or denied the application the family is contacted to discuss the decision and how to forward with the information.  If application is approved the representative would discuss the ways of having the child admitted to the program and what day that would occur.  The decision at this point is still in the parents court.

There are alot of programs and most parents call many programs to determine the most appropriate program for the client.  Red Rock Canyon School does not accept every child to feel their bed spaces.  After parents feel that Red Rock Canyon School is the right choice then the child is admitted to the program.  The child is given an intial assessment by a licensed therapist.  The child is also provided an assessment by a licensed Psychiatrist within the first week.  The child is also offered a complete a educational assessment including the Wood-c**k Johnson Assessment which provides for the intellectual and functioning level for each child.  All of these assessment are combined to help develop a treatment plan within the first 30 days.  The reason it takes 30 days is to make certain the most effective plan is made for the child.

Throughout the process the parents are communicated with by the therapist and parent liason.  Being that Red Rock Canyon School has been in existence for 15 years, Todd Hockenbury has been employed for 15 years, that the program has had alot of success.  If anyone wants further contact including parents and professionals that have seen tremendous success please contact an admissions representative at 435-673-6111.  I personally see things on all programs or just companies on the internet.  As a representative of Red Rock Canyon School I know the success and lives that have been saved.  I am not in defense of any matter I only wish the facts would be looked at and in America people are innocent until proven guilty. However, the internet has turned it backwards guilty for by the first person that reports on the second person.  Thanks, Todd Hockenbury, M.S., SUDC
