Rite-A-Way Services Expensive beyond market. Riverside California
Referred by AHS Home Warranty for a standard 40 gal. home water repair/replacement. The water heater itself was replaced under the AHS warranty, the following were quoted improvements to bring the unit "up to code" and not covered by the warranty:
1. Inlet and outlet flex hoses (upgrade???); Home Depot price < $15.00 each Rite-A-Way charge $105.00
2. Water Heater Pan; HD price $19.95 R-A-W charge $65.00.
3. Pan Drain; 18" x 3/4" PVC with 1- 90 degree PVC elbow, anywhere cost < $2.00. R-A-W charge $65.00.
4. Gas Line (upgrade???); HD < $20.00, R-A-W charge $55.00.
6. Relief discharge was quoted as being required to be plumed to the outside, but in fact, routed to the wash machine drain, approx. 15 ft. less than quoted, estimated cost for material and labor approx. < $50.00, (6 foot 1/2" copper tube run), R-A-W charge $110.00.
7. Disposal $40.00, the only reasonable charge on the invoice.
When called, Rite-A-Way's managements response was a flat, "you were not charged any more than anyone else".
American Home Shield, response, "you had the option to take the service provider offered, or the cash value for replacement and choose your own installer, the choice was yours".
Home Depot doe installations for $299.00.
If you can do it yourself ... parts less than $100.00 - disposal extra.
Stay away from either of these two companies, they both are the definition of "Rip Off", I have cancelled my AHS coverage.
