Complaint Review: Robert Cavigliano - Rochester, NY Select State/Province

It is nice to see that other people have filed a complaint against Robert Cavigliano.  He's been scamming people ALL his life.  I was married to his cousin, and seeing that Bobby was family, we put our trust in him. Big mistake.  He starts off his scams with getting you to trust him.  Once you've let your guard down, you're done!  He will steal everything he possibly can from you.

For me, it all started with a diamond ring.  He claimed to own "Sparkle Sitty Jewelers" and convinced my husband to buy me a new diamond ring for our 10th Anniversary.  He came over with a whole box full of diamonds! And yes, they were real. We gave him $3,000 to have my new ring custom made.  I picked out the diamond I liked and the ring setting.  As soon as I received it, I went to a reputable Jewerly store and in fact was real, and worth more than I paid.....but just his way to earn our trust for the big rip-off!  

A month or so later, he convinced my husband and I to open up a bar/restaurant.  He said he had a lot of expierence in this field and that he was also the manager of another bar called "Diamonds" on Scottsville Rd. in Rochester, NY.  It was a very popular place, so we thought, hey, why not?  So, we opened a bar. The business was doing great.  Better than I thought, actually.  I was at home raising our boys and my husband was working his 9 to 5 job...not keeping such a close eye on Bobby Cavigliano. Started noticing that all the bank deposits from the bar were all even numbers. ($300.00, $700.00, etc..)  

I thought: How could a cash register hit even numbers every night?  Every time I went to the bar, the cash register was erased! When I would ask for the receipts, he'd say, "Oh yea. I got them. But I gotta run and I'll catch up with you later and we'll go over that".  Yeah, later never came. Not to mention the receipts for building the bar from scratch.  Always had an excuse as to why he didn't have them.  Finally, after only a few months of being in business, my accountant told me he was ripping me off blind....from the cash register, to the alcohol and even the money in the pay phone! He would orders cases of booze, then call them back and say he didn't need that much, and to reimburse Bobby Cavigliano and not ME (The Owner!)  

In the mean time, he had convinced us in giving him $6,500.00 to invest in the stock market, which was a guarentee return on our investment. Yeah, maybe for him. We never saw one dime of that money either.

After my accountant confirmed that nothing was adding up, I fired him, over the phone, (which was stupid on my account), while I was on my way over to the bar, he was back dooring the expensive top-shelf alcohol that he ordered, cleaned out my safe and the cash register.  He even filed my taxes for me and signed his name on it. And of course, that was all a fraud too.  Said we only made $9,000.00 when it was actually more than that, but he didn't care, because I was the one who was gonna pay the piper with the IRS.  I tried to back-track as much as I could without the cash register, but it was pretty tough getting an exact figure.  I finally went to the IRS, explained everthing that had happened. Paid my real tax amount.

Filed charges against him, and the rotten crook got off!!  The Judge said she absolutely believed that he robbed me blind, but unfortunetly, you need an EXACT amount,  which I didn't have due to him erasing the grand total on the cash register every night.  And that's the reason why he bought that kind of a cash register, so that he could erase it.  He spent one lousy night in jail.  I filed for restitution, but I will never see any money come back to me.  Even the attorney's said he has no record of ever having a job.  He's never paid taxes in his life. I don't understand why they would not investigate further into his life.  How could a 50 year old man never have worked?  How did you survive for all those years?  How?  Cause he stole all his life.  He didn't have to work!  

I still believe he could talk the pants off a judge.  He should have a master's degree in stealing & conning. Cause he's that good at it.
