Steve Laursen, who is either an owner or employee of 1st Choice, "remodeled" a mobile home that he owned, which I purchased. The photos he showed on his Craigslist ad, and which his sister shared on her FB to advertise the home, showed it looking pristine. Trouble is, they were taken when he first completed the little work he did--but then he continued to live in the home for months afterward, along with his girlfriend and their small children.

But even if he'd moved out when the photos were taken, the photos still wouldn't have shown the true picture because he only took photos of finished areas, with no closeups of anything. The following is a short list of the elements he failed to "remodel":

The master bedroom, which his ad (and his sister's) described at the time of sale as "only needing sheetrock," was in fact completely unfinished. It had no floor, half the ceiling was missing (and the other half was obviously used and beat up), and the "walls" consisted of studs holding up a few layers of insulation--which also had gaping holes in it. Holes large enough to stick a fist through clear to the outside.

There is no access panel to the jacuzzi. The opening for the shower head isn't covered or sealed; it's just a square hole with the pipe protruding. The handle for the bathtub tap isn't original to the set; it routinely falls off because it's the wrong size.

None of the tile work in any of the house, from the kitchen floor to the tile surrounding the tub, was installed correctly. The backsplash behind the kitchen sink has two inch gaps where he didn't put any tile, so it's just bare wall. The floor tile is uneven and the spot behind the refrigerator has no tile at all--just bare floor, which he applied adhesive too without laying the tile on it. The bathroom tile tub surround is uneven, as is the backsplash behind the sink. The vanity outlet came out of the wall the first time I used it.

The area to the side of the hallway intended for a washer and dryer has no flooring and the walls are unpainted sheet rock.

He also claimed that the house included steps and a deck (something I was very fussy about because my husband is disabled, so ease of access is key for him). Despite knowing of my husband's condition, Steve Laursen returned months after I bought the place from him (cash) and removed the steps and deck.

This is relevant to anyone thinking of hiring him on two counts: 1. His work is shoddy. 2. He is dishonest; he will charge you for work that he doesn't do, and he will take materials that you have paid for.
