Parents beware! Scooter's Fab Flashcast may be a scam service.

Through a Craig's List posting, we came in contact with Debbie and got an appointment at Scooter's Fab Flashcast office in Studio City.

We waited in the playroom, where we were being video taped for about an hour or so. At that time, I though they were observing our behavior to screen out difficult children and parents. Our child was having fun playing with all the toys in the room.

After a long wait, we were sent into Debbie's (Head Baby Scout) office where we were interviewed. She told us how the service worked and there is a one time upfront fee of $1500. This was a shock! In the information package they sent, there weren't any information about fees. I thought maybe they took commission from the booking. This is when the red flag went. When Debbie left the room to show some pictures to Carl (Carl Ken Carranza, CEO), that's when my wife whispered , 'I wonder if this is a scam?'. We knew we were being watched and recorded.

The casting call stated that they are looking for 20 new kids... 20 x $1500 = $30,000. Hmm, without other income sources for the company, will $30k cover all the overhead and payroll? Something didn't add up.

Next, we go into Carl's office where he is giving us the sales pitch. He tells us that we have a good of signing with an agent from his 'golden list'. He leaves the room saying the he wants to look at the video from the playroom. What he really is doing is listening to your conversations from the other room. He heard me saying "I don't make decisions on an empty stomach. Let's go get some lunch and talk about it."

Carl comes back into the room and we told him that we'll think about it. He says "why don't you go get some lunch and talk it over and call me back on my cell. I probably won't answer because I'll be busy. You have 'til 6 pm.

So I came home and started Googling 'scooter's fab flashcast'. I found PR articles (which they wrote themselves) saying they've been in business for 21 years and they are the number one entertainment service for young children and babies. I didn't see any negative postings but I was still skeptical.

I googled Carl Carranza and voila! He is a convicted felon for 10 counts of fraud for running the same business.

TO BE FAIR:

I'm sure there are very small number of children who get booked through this service. Not everyone is going to get work in this very competitive industry.

If you are thinking about paying $1500 for their service, all you get is an agent from his personal contact list. There's no guarantee that having an agent will result in auditions or bookings.

It's like buying $1500 worth of lottery tickets; there's a slim chance of winning big but most likely, you will lose.

"Shirley" -- FULL OF FAIL! Dude, there are laws against that out here that, if you are a talent agent, YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO CHARGE! To do so is not only unethical, but unlawful. A legit agent who actually HAS connections will take about 10% or 20% off of commissions. Most real- emphasis on real - good talent agents are those who are/ have worked for larger agencies and have culled enough of a clientele that they could strike it out on their own. Some of these reputable agents don't even have an office, but they have a name, a reputation and the only way to get them is via referral. As for those who were scammed-$1500 is what you paid for to buy that guy's tripe - wow, all I can say is, You been had! Seriously (pwned)

To the "Concerned Citizen" as SHE put it. Put up or shut up! If you're so sure about your claims why don't you identify yourself? Cowards usually go by several alias's. If I was so sure about my allegations against a person or business, I would definately not be afraid to show my true identity. We stand behind our experience with Carl and Debbie, and, we are going by that, our experience. You didn't even have a experience to base any of your nonsense on. I emailed Carl and Debbie and they laughed saying they know exactly who the person is who posted this and are handling it. You can't always hide behind the Internet. Oh, check out one of Carl and Deb's clients who just booked a national TV Spot which aired during Super Bowl last week... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vt-hK-IzdJ8 Oh, but they're a scam, get real. Thanks again Carl and Deb, I saw the new comment from that idiot and just had to put my 2 sense in. Shirley

I wrote these comments soon after we visited scooters fab flashcast because we felt bad for other parents in the waiting room that may have fallen victim to this sales tactic. I wasn't sure at first but I'm even more convinced now that he is writing fake comments under my posting. Obviously this guy know how to work create self publicity and make his business sound legitimate through the web. Somehow he was able to remove this posting from appearing when you google 'scooter's fab flashcast'. I'm sure most people are smart enough to see through this but for those who are skeptical but not sure, I hope I was able to share some information to help you decide. http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/347/RipOff0347411.htm I wish I had this information before we wasted 4 hours!

whoever wrote that negative stuff on deb and carl is a moran. their whole "complaint" sounds very scripted. Debbie and Carl and all employees we met at Scooter's Fab Flashcast have been amazing. My daughter still talks about what a wonderful time she had and that she wanted to move in! they got us a great agent and my daughter just booked a national commercial. My daughter earned a nice amount for college. Thank you, thank you, thank you Scooter's Fab Flashcast. I know they really do deal with some crazy (and trashy) parents who have to waste the time creating false stories because they weren't right for the service. i researched companies on the internet for months. they were the only legit company out there that has been around so long and had kids booking major jobs. Target, Gymboree, Old Navy, Baby Gap, Pampers, Carters. The last writer is correct, most agencies don't want to deal with young children, they use Scooter's Fab Flashcast. I CONTACTED MANY AGENCIES MYSELF AND GOT NOWHERE. my hubby and i are glad we were lucky enough to get connected with them and have referred many parents to them. 2 of our friends kids were rejected from Carl (very nicely of course) so yes, they are very picky on who they put on the service. i took the time to write this because we so deeply appreciate our business realtionship with Debbie and Carl and were quite shocked and angry to see that some idiot made up all of that negative stuff. With the internet, i guess any dumb dumb can now be heard. another proud supporter of Scooter's Fab Flashcast!!

It's always funny when someone writes anonymously on the internet but can't disclose their name, how much creditibilty does that person have people? come on. My husband and i just saw this posting about Scooter's Fab Flashcast. Funny, we have been with them for 2 years, our son got a great SAG agent and have booked numerous jobs. If the person who wrote this, actually did legitmate due diligence, they would find that most talent agents don't take babies, period. We looked for months and months sending out over 1000 pictures, no response. oh, we got 2 responses and both the companies wanted $4,000 for pictures on a baby! we were so happy we found carl and deb who we love and adore. the person who wrote this, of course not giving their name, is either a wanna be competitor or maybe soemone that carl and deb were not interested in, or just couldn't afford the service, because they were maybe parents looking to cash in of their cute kid. there is no way to get your baby started and not spend any money or time on this. we learned the hard way. and of course no agent can promise you work...dah? that's the reality of the business. i would "worry" if someone did guarantee my son work. anyone can write anything on the web, doesn't mean it's true. if you look at the annoucements section of Scooter's website, they will clarify everything regarding comments made about Carl. Convictions os fraud? yeah, right. and, they're still in business over 21 years? Yes, something does smell FISHY HERE, but the bad odor in coming from the person who wrote this nonsense. deb and carl, we love you guys! keep up the good work. jealousy is a disease. the carlson's proud supporters!
