A phone call list of non-active customers generated a phone call by Septic Maxx to a former customer and answered by an 82 year old woman who is battling dementia.  The woman was able to recognize the name of the company as one to say "No" to, although she did not know why.

Several years ago this same woman had answered a similar phone call by Septic Maxx and was then sent product and a bill for over $200, after having told the Septic Maxx representative  "No".  This experience had left a strong, negative impression on the woman's mind allowing her to say "No" again.

Weeks later 3 boxes, 60 units, of Septic Maxx product showed up at the home of the womans' son along with a bill for over $200. The woman was able to find her name on the invoice, the account number, and the order number along with the message "Special order for our valued customer."  She was not able to find the actual amount billed on the invoice. The woman got distracted by the memory of when the septic system was installed, over 60 years ago, and that both of her grown, over 6 foot sons could fit inside the septic tank itself.

A telephone call to 800-397-2384 was answered by a woman introducing herself as Crystal.  After determining that this phone call was in regards to product received but not ordered, she gave her full name as Crystal Brownlee.  Crystal continued on to accuse this caller of calling the salesperson a liar, then inferred she was familiar with people trying to get out of an order by saying the person who placed the order was "senile".

Crystal described the order placement process as being very detailed and designed to assure that the person placing the order was mentally capable of doing so.  Crystal strongly suggested that she be allowed to play back to the caller the tape of the 82 year old woman placing the order for Septic Maxx with full knowledge of what she was ordering. This had to be done by a return telephone call at 9AM next morning to the complainent, with the call tape.

A single telephone call to a reputable company allows a complainant to end the phone call a satisfied customer.  The ending of this phone call to Septic Maxx left me with the strong feeling that Septic Maxx uses "strong arm" tactics to force unwilling septic system users to pay for product that was never ordered.  Based on this experience with "Crystal Brownlee" I looked for an Internet site where I could make a report on an unscroupulous company and place a warning to other persons who might get targeted by Septic Maxx.

Did Employee write Rebuttal to my Ripoff Report?

#2Author of original report

I filed a Ripoff report detailing our familys' experience with Septic Maxx, septic system treatment manufacturer. The response to my report is titled as though written by a customer, yet the body swings back and forth between sounding as from a customer and as from an employee.

Product value is not at issue here, nor is the owner. Possibly the veracity of the person who wrote the response. Yes, every sales call is recorded.

The recording of the call in question was played for me and it was very apparant that there was a problem with the responses given by the call recipient, the woman I described in my complaint as suffering from senility. Never does she say "Yes please place an order", or really any statement that could easily be interpreted as an order for product. Instead, she makes some very odd statements about the septic system on her property and about someone in her family, yet it is not clear if she is talking about a son, herself, or her dead husband.

Previous to playing this recording as "proof product had been ordered" the employee I spoke with stated that the product could not be returned, if returned it would be refused, and billing in full would continue to occur, complete with interest on any outstanding amount at the end of each month. We would also be sued for amounts not payed.

The shipping company used was very willing to recieve the unopened box of product and ship it back to Septic Maxx at no charge to us, noting that they had other, similar complaints against the Septic Maxx telephone sales techniques.
