Sligo Folk Park so much potential but so disappointing Riverstown Other
RIPOFF Sligo Folk Park; Millview House, Riverstown, Ireland; We saw this advertised and as we are interested in history we decided to go. The whole place smacks of somewhere that has had money thrown at it but not in the best way. There only seemed to be one member of staff present - a pleasant enough man but the place felt somewhat deserted. The restaurant was closed - it seemed permanently. One building seemed completely empty yet was open. The village reconstruction was interesting enough but I have seen it done better elsewhere. The old house has a lot of material in there but needs serious work - the smell of damp was nearly overpowering. The displays could have been better laid out and more information given. I like to see history brought to life and it was great to see so many old items preserved but the overall experience was rather unimaginative. On a practical note, the areas between the various buildings were mostly gravel - very hard to push a wheelchair over these. A flat smooth surface would have been far better. I would like to see this place succeed, I feel it has great potential but needs a team with real vision to see it through.
