Unfortunately, you will find more like this than not and especially with any national company. I had (am having) to deal with Central Rifrigeration. They broke their contract first in many, many ways. Luckily, I have had family in this business for years, so my husband was re-directed to a company that was fair. For these unfair trucking companies, we need to nail them and bring all of their flaws out!

OTR Stevens trainer and Lease operator of 3 years here. Yes, what I would consider poor treatment in the Stevens yard during my initial training could be considered "hazing" even 3 years ago when I was in your position. Fact is, most of the people in the Stevens building have nasty attitudes. I can ignore that now that I'm on the road and dont have to deal with them. A little seniority helps as well. I can't imagine the compliance dept forcing you to falsify your logbook, however. Did they tell you to alter it to make it legal? Big difference. They are extreme sticklers when it comes to falsifing your logs or simply making an error. I know from lots of personal experience. Besides the idiots always losing my logbook pages, me giving them another copy of said pages, then they lose them AGAIN, they are probably the most legit dept at Stevens transport. So, of course, were sworn enemies;)

I was very desperate for a job when I lived in Austin,TX and I thought that it would be neat to drive a truck and make the Big money and see a lot of the USA at the same time. Nobody trying to vandalize your car or your person. Just you trying to get the good on time to all kinds of places. How Sweet It Is! Along comes Stevens Transport and they made it sound like gold bars would be dancing into my pocket every time those 18-wheels made a rotation! WOW! I wanted to sign the line ASAP --I wanted to jump in the van that the recruiter was driving and return to Dallas, TX for their training program where I was a hell of a lot happier and made a hell of a lot more money than i EVER made in Austin,TX! (I even used to guard the Stevens Transport Trucking yard in my younger days...) The Stevens Transport Recruitment drives always go on in that top floor room at the La Quinta at I-35 South service road and Ben White Blvd.in AUsitn,TX. Well, I was approved to go to school but had to put it off. And I got to thinking that what happens if I flunk out of their school or have a problem with a trainer sexually harassing me or something like that. i started hearing stories! How much of their money do they make hauling freight and how much collecting frees from all of these folks who try to attend their schools and who just "dont work out" for some reason or the other. That would be quiet a racket, let them run up a bill, throw them out and bill them for it and collect one way to the other whether they have a job and can repay it or not. Rotate enough people through at a few thousand dollars a head and you have made some real money...as long as you can sucker them into keep on coming... I was afraid the only equal opportunity they had was for men AND women to get ripped off, Black, Red, White, Brown,Asians, Catholics, Buddhists, Hindus, Jews... A few years later,I decided that I would try it anyway but by that time I had been out of work for two years and DOT made up that stupid rule that if you can't account for ALL of the past 10 years of your life with NO gaps in employment than you will NOT be able to drive a truck in the USA. But illegal aliens from Mexico and all points south are coming up and being hired immediately without even a US CDL! It was the same recruiter who had seemed so glad to see me last time but didn't even recognize me or acknowledge my presence this time. Guess he was mad because he hadn't made any money off of me. Maybe truck driving works out for guys but I am wondering about whether I would continue to face the same boiling hatred and discrimination that I did in the private security business ... STEVENS TRANSPORT SEEMED TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. I see that REDNECKS and STUPIDITY DO INDEED RULE THE DAY AFTER ALL AT TRUCK DRIVING LIKE THEY DO IN PRIVATE SECURITY CONTRACTING COMPANIES AND I AM NOT GOING TO MAKE THAT MISTAKE AGAIN! Who needs a return trip to hell? Not me. Thanks for letting me know about the truck driver hillbilly HELL I missed.
