The OP of this topic is right on the money. I worked at this place for 5 years and I saw things that you would never believe unless you witnessed them firsthand. -Employees breaking things on purpose -employees doing lines of cocaine off of clients' dressers -employees who refused to go to military bases because they had outstanding arrest warrants. -employees drinking on the job -truck drivers partying until 3 am and coming to work at 7 am, jumping right into a semi and going to a jobsite -stealing valuables was a daily occurrence keep in mind, I actually WITNESSED the crew leaders tell the crew that "this move is military" so that it was ok to damage things. the majority of the people that work here are otherwise unemployable, i.e; ex-cons, felons, heavy drug users, alcoholics, and so on. for most people, there is no job application-just give 'em your name, SSN, and address for your check stub. every day at this job was a soap opera full of drama, and if you didn't fit in with their clique, you were gone (like me) I reccomend that everyone stay away from this company, but if not, READ THE FINE PRINT. the standard insurance is a joke. it covers items by paying you around 30 cents per POUND. thats right-per pound. a piece of waterford crystal stemware get broke, you get 50 cents.

My name is Roger Fisk I am the owner of Slidell Moving. We are a independent agent for Stevens Van Lines. I am a second generation mover and my two sons who both work for me are third generation. Their mom also works as our office manager. The report that "Mike" wrote is totally false. We have a great reputation with the BBB who already addressed this issue with this customer and found no merit. We perform over a 1000 moves ayear with very very little customer dissatifaction. We have never in our 30 years of business had a van fire much less have had total loss of a customers shipment. This move was a move with alot of issues that took place doing the process of the move and these issues were all brought on by the customer. Our original orders were for a local move with the military then after packing and doing the loading the customer changed the delivery to a residence, when we got out to del on the 2nd day with the 2nd truck we found out his house was banned from mold and mildew, we could not go in and move or do anything with the items already delivered. We took what was on the 2nd truck and wrote a new inventory of what we still had in our possesion, we did request the customer to accompany us while we were doing this and they declined. A couple weeks later we were contacted to pickup the items that were banned in the house with mold and mildew but this that at the customers expense as the military would not pay for any more local work, so we moved the articles into the customers mini storage. The items the customer is claiming were damaged and missing were in his storage which we had no control over. The military contacted us as well as the customer to do his final move to TN. This is where Stevens Van Lines came into the picture, because of short notice we could not accomidate his move on one of our trucks so we had our Van Lines haul it to TN. This is common practice in the moving industry. Stevens Van Lines has made a settlement offer to this customer for items damaged doin the moving process. Again we are a excellent company with a excellent reputation who has been in business over 30 years and now 3 generations strong. Anyone who would like to do research further on this please check with the BBB, local military base, local customers were deal with as we do have a excellent reputation in the moving industry. After being in business all of my life I do relize no matter how hard you try to satisfy a customer from time to time you will have a customer such as this that no matter what you do will never be happy.
